Highlight advancement within one company by using a heading and bullets;
o General responsibilities with heading.
o Specific accomplishments within each bullet.
For lesser-known companies/organizations, include a short overview
statement beside or under the company name.

Use effective formatting and style
Communicate points with bullets, not in paragraph form.
Use action verbs at the beginning of each point; avoid “Responsible for.”
Avoid repetition and redundancy with action words (managed, supervised, oversaw).
Write in first person without “I”.
Use words with which you are reasonably comfortable.
Be consistent in presenting date ranges (1998 – 1999 or ’98 – ’01).

Create a proper Education section
Typically positioned at end of CV unless
o Your education is highly relevant to your new position.
o You’re a new graduate and want to show off your degree.
o You have no employment in your targeted field but have a relevant degree or training.
List only classes/workshops that support your job objective.
Relevant life experience, education, and training can compensate for lack of a
degree, even if this is a stated job requirement.

If you haven’t yet received your degree, consider using one of the following phrases:
o Currently enrolled

Be able to explain gaps in study.
Academic work should be listed only if it is relevant to your job objective.
Abbreviate degrees where possible (BS, MBA).

Formatting:
