Introducing CICS JS/Server
from Matter of Fact Software

Why Dojo?

When we embarked upon an upgrade of our PlexSpy
software solution, we wanted to display graphical data
in the web browser. We discovered that the Dojo Toolkit
offered us the best option for doing so.

Why CICS JS/Server?

We quickly realised that to have complete, trustworthy,
control over all of the software used by the web clients
running PlexSpy, the Dojo Toolkit itself needed to be
embedded into the mainframe alongside our software.
As this issue must concern other users of the Dojo
Toolkit, it was decided that a mainframe based solution
was needed that could provide that control generically.
That solution became CICS JS/Server.

CICS JS/Server
• Simple to install.
• Dojo is served out of well understood mainframe PDS
datasets.
• TCPIP connectivity with CICS on the mainframe using
port sharing and Sysplex distributor (if necessary)
provides almost limitless scaling, reliability and
resilience for serving the Dojo Toolkit to web clients.
• It’s on the mainframe so controlling and managing it is
well understood and trusted.

PlexSpy V2.0 etc

Graphical Data is now possible and all of the other
features of Dojo are at our disposal.

An introduction to CICS JS/Server. A software solution from Matter of Fact Software. The software serves several popular Open Source Javascript Libraries and Toolkits from the IBM Mainframe platform. Running under CICS on z/OS, the traditional strengths of the platform can now be applied to the usage of the supported Open Source offerings. Javascript libraries and toolkits facilitate the creation of the user interface for modern business applications. Given that the basic web browser functions can be changed by running javascript, it is vital that complete control over what is served as part of business applications be exerted. The solution also permits bespoke content to be defined to it and served alongside the Open Source material. Additionally, a simple mechanism is provided that allows for novel CICS Web applications to be constructed, managed and operated. Simple to install and implement, CICS JS/Server should be a valuable addition to the software portfolio at sites running CICS on z/OS. Used either tactically or strategically, it can play a valuable part in service provision for users of CICS on z/OS. 1. Bringing the strengths of the IBM mainframe to the use of the Dojo Toolkit. Introducing CICS JS/Server from Matter of Fact Software

2. Why Dojo? When we embarked upon an upgrade of our PlexSpy software solution, we wanted to display graphical data in the web browser. We discovered that the Dojo Toolkit offered us the best option for doing so.

3. Why CICS JS/Server? We quickly realised that to have complete, trustworthy, control over all of the software used by the web clients running PlexSpy, the Dojo Toolkit itself needed to be embedded into the mainframe alongside our software. As this issue must concern other users of the Dojo Toolkit, it was decided that a mainframe based solution was needed that could provide that control generically. That solution became CICS JS/Server.

4. CICS JS/Server • Simple to install. • Dojo is served out of well understood mainframe PDS datasets. • TCPIP connectivity with CICS on the mainframe using port sharing and Sysplex distributor (if necessary) provides almost limitless scaling, reliability and resilience for serving the Dojo Toolkit to web clients. • It’s on the mainframe so controlling and managing it is well understood and trusted.

5. PlexSpy V2.0 etc Graphical Data is now possible and all of the other features of Dojo are at our disposal. What could your enterprise achieve using the Dojo Toolkit served from the mainframe?
