Defination:
The name of anything is known. Such as persons
name, cities name, living thing name and nonliving things name.
Types of noun:
1. Proper noun
2. Common noun
3. Concrete noun
4. Abstract noun
5. Collective noun
6. Compound noun
7. Singular/plural noun
8. Possessive noun
Types of noun
Proper noun:
Proper
noun name a particular
person, place, thing, or idea
and begin with a capital
letter.
Example:
1.United States of
America
2.George
Washington
Common noun:
Name of
a group of persons, place
thing, ideas and generally is
not capitalized.
Example:
1. country
2. movie
Concrete noun:
It is a name a person, place, or thing that can be perceived by one or
more of the senses.
Example:
1. Sand
2. Photographs
Abstract noun:
It is name of an idea, a feeling, a quality, or a characteristic.
Example:
1.love
2. fun
Collective noun:
I is a word that names a group.
Example:
1. faculty
2. team
Compound noun:
It is formed by joining two simple noun together.
Example:
1.boy + friend= boyfriend
2.ice + land= ice land
Singular noun Plural noun
Name of one person, thing , place or
idea is known as singular noun.
Name of more than one person, thing,
place or idea is known as plural.
Example:
. I borrow a piece of paper.
Example:
1) My pencil is broken
Possessive noun:
It shows ownership. It uses an
apostrophe (‘) or an apostrophe plus an –s on the end.
Example:
1. the snake’s place.
2. the bird’s nest.
Noun Gender
Defination:
Gender is defined as the socially
constructed roles and behaviors that a society typically
associates with males, females and non living thing.
Types of gender:
1. Mascuiline noun 2. Famine noun
3. Neuter noun
Masculin noun Famine noun
• It refers to words for a
male figure or male
member of a specie.
Example:
man, boy
• It refers to words for a
female figure or female
member of a specie
Example:
women, girl
Noun cases
Defination:
Cases indicates the gramatic function of
noun and pronoun, according to their relationship with rest
of the sentence
Types :
1. Subjective/Nominative case
2. Objective case
3. Possessive case
Subjective/Nominative case:
when a noun or a
pronoun works as a subject in the sentence, a subjective
case appears.
Example:
He works very hard for the company.
Objective case:
When a noun or pronoun works as an
object in the sentence.
Example:
He loves pizza.
Possessive case:
It indicates a relationship of possession
or belongness between two nouns.
Example:
shaun’s passed away
