2. Ben had only 2 negative things on his mind. 1.
He wanted to tell Rose about Elane. 2. There
was a blackout. But he didn't yearn to tell
Rose about Elane and Blackouts don't last
forever. The storm was still there at least it
was fading and another storm was nearby.
But he was going to a hotel for the night so he
would be safe from the next storm. He looked
at his watch and it said 9:15 PM. Rose told
him about how after school Danny watched
her build while he did his homework. Ben
couldn't quite realize the happy side of the
blackout but he knew that it was how he could
see all the stars that he could see in Gunflint
Lake.
3. He took a taxi to Manhattan and he saw a
hotel named Benjamin. Of course it was pretty
hard to read because there was no electricity
to light the sign. And he saw more lightning
but then suddenly he got struck by lightning.
He saw something familiar. It was the Duluth
Hospital. The nurse told him that the flow of
electricity actually gave back his hearing. He
saw that his pockets were hot and he saw a
sign that said, "Get Well Lilian. The nurse told
him it cured his bad ear, too. Rose survived
the strike and now she could hear. It read
January 6, 1978 on the calendar. He had
been sleeping for 6 months and the doctor still
wouldn't let him out.
