Primary Literacy Program
•   Developed by the EDB.
•   Focus is on reading skills.
•   Main activities:
   shared reading using big books.
   guided reading using small book
    readers.
•   Classes run in our English room.
 teaching of sight words.
 teaching of phonics.

 songs, poems and chants.

 VCD’s of our teaching materials for use

  at home.
• A double lesson every week.
• Three teachers in the classroom – NET,
  LET and CA.
• Home reading program:
 each student reads a different book

  every week.
 students’ reading abilities are tested

  twice a year.
 helps students develop a habit of

  reading English books.
English P4 to P6
• Focus is also on developing reading
  skills.
• We teach four readers per year.
• We use a language arts teaching
  method.
• An ELTA runs language arts activities in
  the classroom and general English
  activities at recess time.
• Language arts activities:
 poem writing

 small group presentations

 theme based activities


• We also teach the process of writing.
Additional English Activities
• English drama
 In 2008 and 2009, seven acting awards.

 Invited to perform, “What do you wish

  for?” at the Public Performance Stage,
  Sai Wan Ho Civic Theatre in 2008.
• English Ambassadors
 Recess activities

 Helping younger students with their

  reading.
• English Week
 Theme used each year e.g. Olympics,

  Christmas and fairytales (this year).
• Solo and Choral Speaking
 80 students participated this year.

 90% of students received merit

  certificates or better.
• Buddy reading in P3 and P6.
• Recess English activities focusing on
  speaking and listening.
