Personal Leadership Principles 7 Principles Change happens.  Progress requires change.  We have to be change agents – masters of our own destiny.  We must make change work for us. 2. 	Progress in a changing world begins with holding onto core values.  OUR core values are Excellence, Caring and Integrity in research, education and the provision of health care. 3.	Progress proceeds from developing clear goals and mechanisms to achieve them. Benchmarking, performance appraisals, incentives, goals and objectives.
Personal Leadership Principles 7 Principles, cont’d Teamwork.  Find the best people.Strengthen partnerships and build new ones. Excellence is not a goal – it’s a requirement. 6.	Don’t be on the cutting edge – be on the penetrating point of the cutting edge. Create paths that others can follow. 7.	You’ve got to like what you’re doing. Enjoy it and share it with others.
Start at the Beginning Before you can figure out how to get where you 	want to go, you first need to figure out where you are.

Must have high level expertise in a discipline and exposure to wide variety of related and emerging natural and social science disciplines, including systems and computational biology, ethics, etc.

The principles, qualities and responsibilities of leadership and team work
