3. History Elfreth’s Alley is the nations oldest residential street. In 1702 men gave up a portion of their land to create Elfreth’sAlley. Once Moses Mordecai was free, he began his life living on Elfreth’s Alley. Moses Mordecai’s family moved to Elfreth’s Alley together. In the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries Elfreth’s Alley had a diverse population.
