ZAP CAMP 2010  SOUTH`CENTRAL COLLEGE   NORTH MANKATO CAMPUS Monday., July 19 – Thursday, July 22, 2010 Ages 11 -15   Cost: $100 (Scholarships available)   Campers will enjoy a hands-on experience and discover how engineers and technicians work in the fields of Mechatronics and Computer Integrated Machining. They will interact with robots; work with circuit boards, spider housing, motor controls, machine centers, and software programs. They will plan, design, and create a project using materials used in industry. They will visit with engineers at their worksite. They will have an opportunity to interact with other young people and share what they learned with their family and friends at a camp picnic on the last day of camp.
ZAP CAMP 2010  SOUTH CENTRAL COLLEGE FARIBAULT CAMPUS   Monday, July 26 –Thursday, July 29, 2010   Ages 11 -15   Cost: $100 (Scholarships available)   Campers will enjoy a hands-on experience in several industry fields: Computer Integrated Machining, Mechatronics, Architectural Drafting, Carpentry and Construction Management. They will interact with robots, circuit boards and machining centers. They will learn how to solder and assemble a pedometer (Mechatronics). They will use a data base to estimate project costs, budgets, and time (Construction Management) to plan a structure such as a fish house, room, or other space. They will also practice hands-on skills, using carpentry tools, such as hammers, drills, and CNC machines (Carpentry). They incorporate their knowledge of mathematics and science concepts as they plan, design, and create the project of their choice. They will have an opportunity to engage with other young people and share what they learned with their family and friends at a picnic on the last day of camp.
DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT  NORTH MANKATO CAMPUS   Campers will plan, design, and manufacture a pedometer. First, they will solder a circuit board, which is the guts of the product. The circuit board will control the pedometer and include a flashlight which will glow red when pressed. Then they will use Master Works to plan, design, and manufacture the housing in which they will place the circuit board, including a design of their choice with their name or personal identification on the outside. Finally, they will manufacture the housing and assemble the pedometer using lathes in the CIM shop.
FARIBAULT CAMPUS DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT Campers will plan, design, and create a useful structure, such as a room, fish house, or other structure of their choice utilizing the parameters given by the instructors. They will use rulers and pencils to design the structure (Architectural Drafting). They will estimate costs, materials, and time needed to complete the structure using a data base (Construction Management). Finally, they will use hammers, drills, and CNC machines to assemble the structure (Carpentry).
