5. The chemical industry in Korea is the leading industry which
enhances our life by producing high value-added products
and playing the great role in the developing technologies of
IT, BT, ET, and NT.
The production amount of Korean chemical industry
reached 99billion dollars in 2009, equivalent to 8.8% of the
total manufacturing industry, and the amount of export
reached 516 billion dollars in 2010. Within the chemical
industry, ethylene production capacity of the petrochemical
industry is about 7.6 million tons, ranked fifth among
ethylene-producing countries. The petrochemical industry
has been playing a significant role as a leading supplier
of base materials in domestic markets for automotive,
electronics, construction, and chemical fiber industries.
KICHEM 2012
