17. Structure & Mounting Issue
• Dead Load: self-weight or permanent load on a
structure, e.g. Roof structure, Bridges
• Live Load; People on the roof, cars on the bridge,
repair equipment/materials
• Wind Sheer: e.g. wind force on HVAC equip, on
Panels and structures
• Seasonal Load: Snow, Rain, Hail
• Vibration: HVAC motors, Fans, wind through Panel
structure
• Seismic forces
• Soil composition, landfills
• Floating Structures on water..!

44. AB 920 NEM
• In 2009, the California Legislature passed and
Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law
Assembly Bill (AB) 920, which changed the law that
governs Net Energy Metering (NEM) for solar and
small wind generators.
• Before the change, the law said customers could not
receive credit for electricity exported to the grid
beyond their own annual usage.
• As a result of AB 920, customers can receive
compensation or a credit for net exports to the
grid at the time of their annual true-up starting in
2011.
45. NEM Options
If a customer generates more electricity during his or her
12-month true up period (that ends 2011 or thereafter)
than it is supplied by the electric utility to the customer
during the same 12-month period, the customer may
elect to do one of the following:
(A) Receive compensation for any net surplus electricity
generated during the 12-month period, or
(B) Apply the net surplus electricity as a credit for
kilowatt-hours subsequently supplied by the electric
utility to the surplus customer-generator, or
(C) Not participate.
46. NEM Compensation
• Direct & Carry-Over options:
– PG&E will provide additional information to
help customers make a selection.
• The compensation should be in place
by your 2011 true-up.
