TROMBE WALL
•A hollow wall through which air can be
circulated.
•Used to heat up the cold air using solar
energy.
•Consists of three components
1. Direct gain window
2. Convective loop
3. Thermal storage walls

• Used in cold regions during winter to maintain
optimum room temperature. Some real life
examples are shown below.

OVERHANGS AND WINGED WALL
•Heating or cooling based on the architecture
of the building.
•The idea is that cooling can be achieved to
some extent by preventing the entry of solar
radiation or ,by minimizing the surface area
receiving solar radiation.
•These walls are constructed in such a way
that in summer it prevents solar radiation
entering the room and in winter the vicevesa.

WIND ENERGY CONVERSION
SYSTEM
NEED OF WIND ENERGY
•Present energy needs heavily relies on the
conventional sources.
•But the steady increase in price and limited
availability of the conventional sources has
shifted the focus towards renewable sources of
energy.
•Of the available alternate source of energy wind
energy is considered to be one of the proven
technologies with a competitive cost for
electricity generation.

DISADVANTAGES
•Wind energy available is fluctuating in nature
and varies fro zero to storm force.
•Wind energy systems are noisy in operation
•Good wind sites are often located in remote
locations ,far from cities where electricity is
needed.
•Installation and maintenance cost of wind
turbine is high .
Wind turbine efficiency
•Wind turbine efficiency = useful output
power / wind power input.
•Betz’s law states that no wind turbine can
capture more than 59.3% of kinetic energy of
wind. So this is the theoretical maximum
efficiency that a wind turbine can achieve.

DISADVANTAGES •Wind energy available is fluctuating in nature and varies fro zero to storm force. •Wind energy systems are noisy in operation •Good wind sites are often located in remote locations ,far from cities where electricity is needed. •Installation and maintenance cost of wind turbine is high .
  • 15. Wind turbine efficiency •Wind turbine efficiency = useful output power / wind power input. •Betz’s law states that no wind turbine can capture more than 59.3% of kinetic energy of wind. So this is the theoretical maximum efficiency that a wind turbine can achieve.
