As an Army brat, Monte saw quite a bit of the world by the time he entered high school. He carried on the family tradition by attending the West Point, where he earned his BS in Engineering, and, upon graduation in 1968, was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the US Army. His 22 years career carried him to many parts of the world including Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. He taught at the Army Command and General Staff College, West Point, and at Hofstra University (ROTC). Monte started his career in facility management in 1993 and spent the next 15+ years in IL and NY. He retired in 2011 and began freelance writing full time.
