Circle
Roles:
Literary
Luminary
Your
job…is
to
select
at
least
3
passages
from
the
section
you
read.
You
can
choose
to
read
a
passage
because
of
humor,
awesome
action,
great
dialogue
(talking),
its
importance
to
the
story,
the
way
it
rolls
off
your
tongue
when
you
read
it,
or
for
any
reason
you
want.
The
important
thing
is
that
you
read
it
to
the
group
and
explain
why
you
chose
this
passage.
Remember:
1) As
you
read
put
sticky
notes
in
the
pages
where
you
find
a
good
passage.
Write
the
first
few
words
and
last
few
words
of
the
passage
on
the
sticky
to
help
you
remember
what
you
picked.
2) When
you
are
done
reading
your
section,
copy
the
passages
onto
the
back
or
a
!
Put
the
page
and
paragraph
numbers
in
front
of
the
passages.
separate
paper
and
staple
it.
!!
Put
quotation
marks
around
the
passage.
Don’t
forget!!!→
!!!
Be
sure
to
leave
room
to
explain
why
you
chose
this
passage.
3) Explain
why
you
chose
this
passage.
Writing
“because
it
was
cool”
is
not
good
enough.
Tell
exactly
what
you
like
about
it,
how
it
makes
you
feel,
what
it
reminds
you
of,
etc.
4) Practice
reading
each
one
aloud
until
you
can
read
it
with
NO
MISTAKES
using
an
entertaining
expression.
Pretend
like
you
are
a
teacher
reading
to
your
class.
You
are
giving
a
performance,
so
be
sure
to
rehearse
beforehand!!!
Example:
Pg 23/Para. 3 “Alex grabbed hold of what was left of the backseat. Ahead of him he could see a single triangle of
light, shrinking faster and faster. He could feel the weight of the two walls pressing down on him. The car was no
longer a car but the fist of some hideous monster snatching at the insect that Alex had become.”
I
chose
this
passage
because
it
had
good
description.
It
made
me
feel
like
I
was
in
the
car
getting
compacted
with
Alex.
I
especially
liked
the
part
about
him
being
an
insect
inside
of
a
fist.
I
could
really
visualize
Alex
inside
the
car
getting
squished.
When
you
meet….
1) Tell
your
group
the
page
and
paragraph
numbers
and
wait
for
them
to
find
the
passage.
2) Read
your
passage
with
feeling!
3) Read
what
you
wrote
about
why
you
chose
the
passage.
4) Take
a
comment
from
one
member
of
the
group
or
ask
questions
about
your
quote.
5) Read
your
second
passage
following
steps
1-‐4
above.
6) The
group
will
grade
you
on
the
rubric
