3. Program Description
The Marketing program is designed to
prepare students for employment in a
variety of positions in today's marketing
and management fields. The Marketing
program provides learning opportunities
that introduce, develop, and reinforce
academic and occupational knowledge,
skills, and attitudes required for job
acquisition, retention, and advancement.
Additionally, the program provides
opportunities to upgrade present
knowledge and skills or to retrain in the
area of marketing.
4. Employment
Opportunities: There are endless job opportunities available to marketing students,
including customer service, sales representatives, account managers, and small
business owners. Marketing opportunities can be found in every industry.
Job Placement: Graduates should expect to qualify for employment in retail sales,
industrial sales, marketing administration, hospitality/tourism and small business
management.
Salary: Compensation for marketing positions ranges widely according to industry,
size of company, years of experience, and responsibilities. Average compensation
ranges from $8.50 per hour to $30,000 per year with increases based on
performance.
Advancements in the Field: Varies depending on place of employment. Some
examples would include: advancing from commission-based sales representative
to account manager; working as an apprentice to owning your own small business;
or moving from customer service representative to sales manager.
5. Timeline
Technical Certificates of Credit can be earned in Small
Business Management and Entrepreneurship. Each certificate
can be completed in approximately 2 terms depending on
class offerings.
Marketing diplomas can be earned in 4 terms depending on
class offerings and specialization choices.
An Associate of Applied Science in Marketing can be earned in
approximately 5 terms depending on class offerings.

Are classes offered online?
Yes, the entire program can be completed online.
Do I receive hands-on experience?
Yes, efforts are made to incorporate hands-on and “real world”
learning activities in all Marketing courses. These activities
include scenario-based software, case study analysis, current
event analysis and application-based projects.
May I specialize in more than one area for the diploma program?
Yes, many students choose to specialize in Marketing
Management or Entrepreneurship. Specializations in Retail
Management and Professional Selling can also be completed but
will require multiple transient courses from another college.
Are there any student organizations?
Yes, the Marketing program encourages student participation in
any of the student organizations offered at MTC. However,
Marketing students are encouraged to join Skills USA as an
opportunity to enhance leadership skills, build business skills and
network with other professionals.
