4. Introductions
The introduction should orient the reader to the topic.
The introduction should make the reader want to read
more.
Introductions should go from broad, general
statements to narrower, more focused statements…
…ending with the thesis, the last sentence of the
introduction.
5. Conclusions
The conclusion should provide the reader with a sense
of closure, so the paper comes to a logical close rather
than just ending.
The conclusion should add an insight (you haven’t
shared yet) you’ve had as a result of writing the paper.
Try to make the last sentence count—it should “seal
the deal.”
Do not repeat anything word for word from other parts
of your paper.
6. Modifiers
Grammatically, modify means to give more
information about.
Basic principle: the modifier must come directly after
the word or phrase it modifies.
When you violate this basic principle, your sentences
can end up saying something other than you mean.
