Elluminate Housekeeping Raising your Hand – Clicking on this icon is how you raise your hand during this session. Please raise your hand if you have a question or comment, and wait until you are called on to ask or type it. We will stop several times for questions. Away– During this session, you can let me know you have stepped away from the computer for a moment by clicking this icon. Click it again when you return. Polling Options – During this session, I may ask you for your feedback to a specific question. You may be asked to use the green check or red X. These may also be replaced by letters or numbers. When using these, only click once. Clicking a second time resets your choice. Emoticons – During this session, you can let me know how you are feeling (Happy or laughing, in agreement, confused, or in disagreement)
Classroom Rules: Remember to always demonstrate your best manners. Be considerate of others and allow everyone a chance to participate. S3P1. Students will investigate how heat is produced and the effects of heating and cooling, and will understand a change in temperature indicates a change in heat. a. Categorize ways to produce heat energy such as burning, rubbing (friction), and mixing one thing with another. b. Investigate how insulation affects heating and cooling. c. Investigate the transfer of heat energy from the sun to various materials. Explore Our Standards
What do you know about how things heat up? What do you know about how things cool off? Heating and Cooling
That’s Hot! ,[object Object]
Heat is sometimes very hot!
All heat is energy.Sun Fire Electricity
[object Object]
Slowly the end of the hanger warms up, as it takes in the heat from the fire. Campfire Activity!
Why Does This Happen? ,[object Object],[object Object]
Heat moves from the flames to the metal handle.
From there it moves to all the molecules in the hanger by conduction until it reached your fingers. Here’s The Reason…
Heat can move from one object to another, or from one molecule to another through the process of conduction. Heat On The Move!
What Is AMolecule? ,[object Object],[object Object]
When it does it passes some of its heat energy to other molecules around it.
When this happens, all the molecules of an object move heat from one to another, until they are all hot.Hot All Over!
What things get hot fast? ,[object Object]
Metal is a good conductor because it takes heat in quickly.
Copper becomeshot quickly, so it is a conductor.,[object Object]
These are called insulators.,[object Object]
Black, navy blue, and other dark colors take in heat quickly.,[object Object]
Cool Colors? ,[object Object],[object Object]
black? If you did, you are right! Did you choose…
