Omnicell Automatic medication  and supply dispensing system
OMNICELL  OVERVIEW Ensures patient safety by reducing medication mistakes         Helps to monitor and control distribution of medication    Helps to comply with The Joint Commission and other regulatory standards   Improve patient care by reducing nursing administrative time
OVERVIEW   CONTINUED Pharmacy personnel no longer need to perform cart stocking and redundant restocking Immediate availability of new medication orders and commonly used medication can be pre stocked
                  FEATURES Data that captures transactions of items that can be traced 24 hours a day Secure controlled access
MORE FEATURES Allow restock levels to be calculated automatically to prevent missed doses and errors Billing errors are minimized
Policies and Procedures Limited access only by Pharmacy and Nursing personnel Requires authorized access with a assigned password Pharmacy it to be notified with any problems with the Omnicell Pharmacy is responsible to refill and check the refrigerator daily
Policies continued Controlled Substances Non Controlled Substances  Medication that is wasted or returned must be witnessed  Remaining medication requires a manual count Does not require a manual count  Can be returned to the Omnicell system as long as the medication has not been opened or tampered with.
Challenges Cabinets can’t always contain all the patients medication  which may require medication to be stored in another location System failures which may cause locked access Medication that is restocked can be placed in wrong cabinets
                     Conclusion Omnicell application provides efficiencies in medication management and is built to perform with the goal of patient safety and staff efficiency…………..
