Barcelona is a city in Spain.
It is the capital city of
Catalonia.
Barcelona is the second most
populated city in Spain.
Barcelona is on the
Mediterranean coast. The
city is between the rivers of
Llobregat and Besos.
Barcelona city has a
population of over
1.600.000 people and an
area of 100 km2.

7. LES RAMBLES
La Rambla is a street
in central Barcelona.
It’s a 1,2 kilometer-
long, tree-lined
pedestrian mall. It
connects Catalunya
Square and the
Christopher
Columbus
Monument.
8. CATALUNYA SQUARE
It’s a large square
in central
Barcelona. Some
of the city’s most
important streets
and avenues
meet there.
9. SAGRADA FAMÍLIA
The church of
Sagrada Familia was
designed by Antoni
Gaudí. The church
has been under
construction.
10. CASA MILÀ (LA PEDRERA)
Casa Milà, as La
Pedrera is a building
designed by the
architect Antoni
Gaudí. It was built
during the years
1905-1910.
11. CASA AMATLLER
Casa Amatller is a
building in the
modernisme style. It
was originally
designed as a
residence for
chocolatier Antoni
Ametller. It was
constructed between
1898 and 1900.
12. CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS MONUMENT
Christopher
Columbus discovered
America.
The boats that he had
were the Pinta, Nina
and Santa Maria.
This statue is
watching America.
13. AGBAR TOWER
The Torre Agbar is a
new technological
building. It was
constructed by a
French architect in
2005. There are
offices, services, an
auditorium and a
parking lot.
15. HARBOUR
It is the nineth
largest container
port in Europe.
It’s divided in
three zones: Port
Vell (the old
harbour), the
commercial port
and the logistics
port.
17. MONTJUÏC
It’s a hill situated in
the southwest of
the city center.
The top of the hill
was the site of
fortifications. The
latest was the
Castell de
Montjuïc.
18. MONTJUÏC FOUNTAINS
The Magic Fountain of
Montjuïc. The fountain
was constructed in 1929.
It’s a musical fountain.
19. EIXAMPLE
It’s a district of
Barcelona. It’s
famous because of
its long straight
streets crossed by
avenues and square
blocks with
chamfered corners.
It was designed by
Ildefons Cerdà.
20. GOTIC DISTRIT
It’s in the center of the old
city. There are
buildings date from the
Medieval period, the
Romans, and there is
also the Jewish quarter.
21. CAMP NOU
It’s a football stadium.
The stadium has
been the home of
FC Barcelona since
1957. In the club
there are famous
players like Messi,
Xavi, Iniesta, Piqué,
Puyol, etc.
25. LA MERCÈ
La Mercè is the most
important festival in the
city. It has been an official
city holiday since 1871.
The actual feast day is
September 24th.
There are giants and
tadpoles (capgrossos),
beasts, and castellers.

JOAN MIRÓ (1893-1983)
He is a painter. One project is a
Fundació Joan Miró, in Barcelona.
His pictures seem like children’s
drawings and they have a lot of
colours.
ANTONI TÀPIES (1923)
He is a painter. Fundació Tàpies, in
Barcelona, is a museum dedicated
to his life and work.
