4. INTRODUCTION
Microsoft® Online Services offers flexible, Internet-based e-mail, Web conferencing, instant messaging,
document collaboration and workflow services. Available as separate services or in an integrated suite,
these services are designed for rapid service adoption by an organization and carry a service level
agreement that guarantees 99.9% uptime.
Microsoft Online Services users can access these business-class services from a on the PC, Web
browser, and a variety mobile phones and devices. This document focuses on the mobility solutions
available for two Microsoft Online offerings—Microsoft® Exchange Online Standard and Microsoft®
SharePoint® Online Standard.
About Microsoft Exchange Online
Microsoft® Exchange Online is a hosted enterprise messaging solution based on Microsoft Exchange
Server 2007. The Exchange Online service includes advanced e-mail features as well as calendaring,
contact, and task management capabilities. Exchange Online also provides built-in spam control and virus
scanning to reduce common security risks that are associated with e-mail files.
Exchange Online includes a standardized Web-based administrative console that makes it easy to
manage and set up services for users.
Exchange Online includes support for mobile devices—in particular devices that use the Microsoft
Exchange ActiveSync® protocol. Exchange ActiveSync provides synchronization of mailbox data
between Exchange Online and mobile devices.
About Microsoft SharePoint Online
Microsoft® SharePoint® Online is a collection of Web-based tools and technologies that help your
organization store, share, and manage digital information within your company. Built on Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server 2007, this hosted service is ideal for storing project documents in a central location
and sharing them with others. By using SharePoint lists, libraries, and Web Parts, team members can
work more efficiently and productively

Windows Mobile® is the mobile operating system that is available in phones and mobile devices from top
manufacturers around the world. Windows Mobile devices help deliver the most advanced mobile
capabilities while maximizing technology investments and improving both mobile worker and IT
productivity
To use Exchange Online and SharePoint Online with a Windows Mobile-based device, the device must
have Windows Mobile 6.0 or Windows Mobile 6.1 installed.
Get Messaging Capabilities Anywhere
Windows Mobile and Microsoft Online Services give your business anywhere access to the powerful
productivity capabilities of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, the messaging system that drives Exchange
Online. You can provide your employees with mobile access to e-mail, calendars, tasks, and contacts—all
while helping to protect against malware and spam. A powerful yet simple remote Web-based console
helps you securely administer Exchange Online to deliver simplified, seamless access to communications
to and from Windows Mobile phones and devices.
Windows Mobile 6.0 or Windows Mobile® 6.1 devices have built-in compatibility with Exchange
ActiveSync. This data synchronization program allows Exchange Online users can take advantage of
these features Windows Mobile features:
• Direct Push: Microsoft Office Outlook® e-mail, calendar, tasks, and contacts are delivered
without delay to mobile devices via Microsoft Exchange Online.
• Remote device wipe: If a mobile device is lost, stolen, or otherwise compromised, users can log
on to their mailboxes through Outlook Web Access (OWA) and remotely erase all information
from the device.
Windows Mobile 6.1 Enhancements
Windows Mobile 6.1—the latest version of Windows Mobile
software—includes a new Home screen interface, security
improvements, better Internet browsing, instant messaging-like
texting, simpler e-mail and Bluetooth setup, a new Getting
Started Center, easier Wi-Fi connection, and more personal
choice. With Windows Mobile, you get the data access,
productivity tools, and messaging flexibility you rely on.
Sending and viewing e-mail is simpler with Windows Mobile 6.1.
Set up all of the e-mail accounts you already use on your PC
with the Windows Mobile setup wizard—it does all the hard
work for you. E-mail messages look like they do on your PC—
they’re easy to read, no panning or zooming necessary. With
Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile, you can enjoy all the features
you already know and use on your desktop for creating,

11. EXCHANGE ACTIVESYNC-ENABLED DEVICES
Exchange ActiveSync provides synchronization of mailbox data between Exchange Online and mobile
devices and has been licensed by many device manufacturers. Mobile devices that are enabled for
Exchange ActiveSync allow users to access their e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks anytime and
anywhere. To enhance security, authentication from mobile devices to Exchange Online is conducted
over an SSL connection using a password and user name.
Microsoft Online Services has tested the following leading Exchange ActiveSync devices as
representative; they are compatible with Microsoft Exchange Online. Other Exchange ActiveSync devices
may be compatible as well, but require customer or device manufacturer testing.
• Nokia E series and N series: Nokia Mail for Exchange must be installed.
• Apple iPhone 2.0: Safari Mobile browser is required.
The user subscription license for Exchange Online Standard includes access to Exchange Online
data with an Exchange ActiveSync device at no additional charge. Access is not available for
users subscribed under the Deskless Worker license.
For Sharepoint Online, these devices can simply use the browser indicated to access SharePoint Online
sites. Other Exchange ActiveSync-enabled devices may also include browsers which can access
SharePoint Online sites but require customer or device manufacturer testing.

12. RIM BLACKBERRY DEVICES
Microsoft Online Services provides three paths for Research in Motion (RIM) BlackBerry device users to
access Exchange Online and SharePoint Online.
• BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS)
• Microsoft Online Serves hosted BlackBerry service
• Partner solutions for BlackBerry devices
The following sections detail these offerings for Exchange Online. For Sharepoint Online, BlackBerry
users can simply use the browser on their BlackBerry device to access SharePoint Online sites.
BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS)
BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) is available through mobile operators around the globe and enables
push e-mail to your BlackBerry device at no additional cost beyond the BIS connection from your mobile
operator. Other Exchange Online information – such as Contacts and Calendar – are not pushed to the
device through BIS. You can update this type of information on your device using a wired connection.
To set up BIS to use with Exchange Online, your mobile operator, will request your Outlook Web Access
(OWA) address, which is determined by the storage location of your Microsoft Online Services data. The
storage location is generally the one closest to your company headquarters. The following table provides
URLs for storage locations.

Microsoft Online Hosted BlackBerry Service
For customers who already have or prefer to purchase their own BlackBerry client and server licenses,
Microsoft Online offers a Hosted BlackBerry service.
Service Delivery Model
With the Hosted BlackBerry service, customers bring the BES licenses they have already purchased to
Microsoft to provide hosting and operational support within the Microsoft Online Services data centers.
The customer has the following responsibilities:
• Provide Microsoft with RIM BES Server Routing Protocol (SRP) Identifier, BES license, and client
access licenses (CALs) to enable deployment of BlackBerry services in Microsoft Online Services
data centers.
• Include Microsoft its existing RIM support agreement of level TX2 or higher as a “named caller” to
enable Microsoft to contact RIM on the customers’ behalf for support services.
Microsoft has the following responsibilities:
• Host and operate Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) in the Microsoft Online Services data center(s)
• Provide technical support to customer’s IT administrator(s), including interfacing with RIM on
troubleshooting as needed using customer’s existing RIM support agreement

The Hosted BlackBerry service features encompass the most commonly requested BlackBerry
capabilities for Microsoft Online Services customers.

Service Settings
As with other Microsoft Online Services, Hosted BlackBerry is a standardized service and is not
customized per customer. All service policies and settings are as listed in the Policy Reference Guide at
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/deliverables/3801/Policy_Reference_Guide.pdf with the exception of the
choice of password and no-password policies. Settings for these policies are detailed here:
• No password required policy. Default policy that is applied unless a customer specifically requests

Service Pricing and Conditions
The Hosted BlackBerry Service is purchased and billed separately from Exchange Online Standard or the
Business Productivity Online Suite Standard through a separate month-to-month auto-renewing
agreement. Pricing is $5.00 (USD) per user per month. There is a $50 per useruser one-time setup fee
and a minimum of 20 users.
Customers must purchase their BlackBerry server and client licenses and support agreement separately
from RIM.

15. Partner Solutions for BlackBerry Devices
This section describes partner solutions for BlackBerry users subscribed to Exchange Online.
NotifySync
NotifySync™ from Notify Technology is a client application for BlackBerry
smartphones which can synchronize e-mail, calendar, contacts and tasks directly to
Exchange Online. NotifySync client can be configured to use a "direct or scheduled
push" option when connecting to the user’s e-mail platform. The NotifySync client
provides support for folder management, global address look up, meeting
invitations, and remote wipe.
E-mail Features
With NotifySync, users have the ability to compose, reply, forward, or delete their e-mail while mobile. A
variety of e-mail attachment formats is supported as well. E-mail
folder synchronization, including sent, draft, and trash folders, are all
configurable on the BlackBerry. The user can also configure the
frequency at which he/she receives messages and the
synchronization range, which serves to control the quantity of
messages kept on the BlackBerry. Support for accepting or
declining meeting invitations is also available, as well as remote
access to the organization's Global Address Book. Users can also
configure how messages are cleaned up on a daily,weekly, or
monthly basis.

NotifySync e-mail also has these features: mail Folder
• Folder mirroring allows email folders from your mail account to be synchronized to the device
• Attachment viewing is supported using the BlackBerry native viewers for Microsoft Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint
• Emails with attachments can be forwarded
Personal Information Management (PIM) Features
NotifySync lets you manage calendar, contacts, and tasks as follows:
• Provides interfaces to the BlackBerry's native calendar, contact and tasks applications
• Synchronize calendar events in a configurable Look-Back/Look-Ahead range
• Supports multiple address books
• Uses remote lookup (Global Address List) to retrieve contact information from the customer's LDAP
directory
• Lets you receive and accept/decline meeting invitations
