Intro
Titanic

was the biggest ship made at the time it
was at service.
Titanic

collided with an iceberg on April 14 1912
at 11:50 pm . It sank 2 hours 40 minutes later at
2:30 in the morning.
It

was one of the most deadliest maritime
disasters in modern history
Construction
Titanic

was constructed on Queen's Island, now known as the Titanic Quarter
in Belfast Harbour, Ireland.
The

Titanic was about 270 meters in length, which is about 1/6 of a mile. It
also was 53 meters in height
They

thought Titanic would look better with 4 funnels when 3 were actually
working
Titanic

was owned by the White Star Line

Titanic

was built in about 3 years

It

took 7.5 million dollars to build
Passagers
2,566

tickets were sold in total.

1st class: 1034

2nd class: 510
3rd class: 1022
Some of them didn’t or couldn’t go so around 2,200
people got onto Titanic.
Life styles
Third-class

passengers could hear the loud roar of the
ship's engines in their cabins at all times.
Only

two bathtubs were available for more than 700 thirdclass passengers - one for men, one for women.
Most
On

third-class cabins contained four to six bunks.

the Titanic, only 2 suites had private washrooms.
Engine
It

used 825 tonnes of coal a day

The

engines each weighted 1000 tons

The Titanic had 29 boilers which used 159 coal
burning furnaces.


Titanic's

had two 4 cylinder engines
Nicknames
Some of Titanic's nicknames were:
●

The Millionaires ship

●

The Ship of dreams

●

The Unsinkable ship

●

and The wonder ship
Collision
The

collision happened around 23:40 on April 14 1912

They

saw the iceberg on 23:39, once the lookout sounded the
alarm, they only had 37 seconds to react.
The

water started flooding into the first 5 compartments on
the starboard side, which is to the right. The Titanic could
only stay afloat with any 2 compartments or the first 4
compartments fully flooded, so it sank.
Collision pics
Survivors
●

Only over 700 people manage to get on to a boat and
survive

●

The people who did manage to get on a boat were
picked up by the closet ship Carpathia.

●

2 dogs were also saved from the Titanic
Why so many died
●

There weren’t enough life boats for even half the crew
onboard

●

The boats were not fully loaded when they launched,
there was one boat which had 12 people on when it was
built for 40.

●

There was still 2 lifeboats empty when Titanic sank

●

A lifeboat drill was Originally planned to take place on
board the Titanic on April 14, 1912, but it had been
cancelled

●

There was a closer ship, but the Captain of that ship was
asleep.
The Wreck
●

●

Titanic's wreck sit on the sea bed over 3780 metres
beneath the surface.

It took about 15 minutes for Titanic to reach the ocean
floor

●

Titanic sank at a speed of about 16 km an hour.

●

The Titanic's hull was discovered 74 years later.
How the Titanic sank (video)
Fun Facts

Class fares cost $7 5s (equivalent to $608 today) while the
cheapest First Class fares cost $23 ($1,928 today). The most
expensive First Class suites cost up to $870 ($72,932 today) in high
season.
Third

The

Titanic originally was designed to carry 64 lifeboats. To save
from cluttering decks, the ship ended up carrying 20 on her maiden
voyage.
The

Titanic's crew failed to fire correct distress signals after
hitting the iceberg. Instead, the incorrect rocket pattern signaled to
any ship in the area: "I'm having navigation problem. Please stand
clear.“
If

the ship had hit the berg head first, Titanic probably would have
survived because of the strength of its bulkheads.

Self reflect
I think I did quite well on this Passion Project. I
think I deserve a fully meetings because. I stayed
on topic pretty much most of the class time I was
given. I think I could of added a bit more detail into
this project. Also I could have added a bit more
pictures.
