What source control software did you use in 2010? Possibly Git, if you were an early adopter or a Linux kernel committer. But chances are you were using Subversion, as this was the product of choice for the majority of the software developers. Ten years later, Git is the most popular product. Which makes me wonder: what will we use another ten years from now? In this talk we will think about what features we want from our source control software in 2030. More speed? Better collaboration support? No merge conflicts ever? I’ll also discuss a few products that have been published after Git emerged, including Plastic, Fossil and Pijul. I’ll talk about the extent to which they contain the features we so dearly desire and I’ll demonstrate a few typical use cases. To conclude, I’ll try to predict which one will be ‘the top dog’ in 2030 (all information is provided “as is”, no guarantees etc. etc.). So attend this session if you’re excited about the future of version control and if you want to have a shot at beating even (!) the early adopters. Now if it turns out I was right, remember that you heard it here first.

With some of the newer HTML5 API’s it is now possible to redesign how your web pages interact with the desktop. Web pages are too often little islands that fail to interact well with the wider user interface of our devices. This talk will explain the new Drag/Drop and File APIs, demonstrating how to make web pages more equal in the world of applications.

The emergence of functional compile-to-JavaScript languages opens the world of functional programming to web developers and the world of web development to functional programmers, but what tools are out there for functional programmers to use when they need to work with modern ECMAScript (JavaScript)? We'll shine a light on JavaScript's functional aspects, see an overview of popular functional programming tools and focus in on a few (ramda.js and crocks.js) that make currying, composition, point-free style and Algebraic Data Types in JavaScript only an `import` away.

If you own an electronic music instrument made in the last 3 decades, it most likely supports the MIDI protocol. What if I told you that it is now possible to interact with your keytar or drum machine directly from your browser? You would go crazy, right? Well, prepare to do so… With built-in support inside Chrome and Opera, upcoming support in Firefox and plugins for other platforms, this possibility is now a reality. This talk will introduce the audience to the Web MIDI API and libraries that help you get the most out of it. Web devs, man your synths!

In this talk from Ian Amit, he will try to address things from a more tactical (read: practical) perspective for application development. What 'we' see, or want, from a security practitioner perspective is nice, but enabling it from an application view isn't trivial. He'll cover the aspects that the attendees can gain from having applications designed and implemented in certain manners, while of course not changing the way things are being practiced these days (too much). He will also show how logging (yes… plain old boring logging) can go a long way, and how applications that are a bit more self conscience to their state can be utilised to detect attacks before they actually happen.

Given at TechMaine's Java Users Group on Feb 26 2008 Why do we need another build tool when we already have Ant? By focusing on convention over configuration, Maven allows you to declaratively define how your project is built, which reduces a lot of the procedural code that you'd need to implement in every build file if you were using Ant. This, along with Maven's built-in management of repositories for project dependencies, allows you to streamline your build process. Ultimately Maven can reduce the amount of time that would otherwise be wasted hunting down jar files and fiddling with boilerplate build scripts. This presentation covers Maven's core concepts. It introduces the Plugin architecture, and explain how the most popular plugins are used. It also covers the POM concept and how it relates to dependency tracking and repositories.

Ant is a Java library and command-line tool. Ant's mission is to drive processes described in build files as targets and extension points dependent upon each other. The main known usage of Ant is the build of Java applications. Ant supplies a number of built-in tasks allowing to compile, assemble, test and run Java applications. Ant can also be used effectively to build non Java applications, for instance C or C++ applications. More generally, Ant can be used to pilot any type of process which can be described in terms of targets and tasks. Ant is written in Java. Users of Ant can develop their own "antlibs" containing Ant tasks and types, and are offered a large number of ready-made commercial or open-source "antlibs". Ant is extremely flexible and does not impose coding conventions or directory layouts to the Java projects which adopt it as a build tool. Software development projects looking for a solution combining build tool and dependency management can use Ant in combination with Ivy.

The Yahoo UI (YUI) Library is well known for its excellent documentation. One of its secrets is YUI Doc, a Python application used at build time to generate API documentation for JavaScript code. But is YUI Doc really better than JS Doc Toolkit -- an elder application, written in JavaScript, that also generates API documentation. When should you choose one over the other? Which is the better choice for your project?

Yahoo has developed the de facto standard for building fast front-ends for websites. The bad news: you have to follow 34 rules to get there. The good news: I'll take a subset of those rules, explain them, and show how you can implement those rules in an automated fashion to minimize impact on developers and designers for your high-traffic website.

In the thrilling conclusion to 2023, ransomware groups had a banner year, really outdoing themselves in the "make everyone's life miserable" department. LockBit 3.0 took gold in the hacking olympics, followed by the plucky upstarts Clop and ALPHV/BlackCat. Apparently, 48% of organizations were feeling left out and decided to get in on the cyber attack action. Business services won the "most likely to get digitally mugged" award, with education and retail nipping at their heels. Hackers expanded their repertoire beyond boring old encryption to the much more exciting world of extortion. The US, UK and Canada took top honors in the "countries most likely to pay up" category. Bitcoins were the currency of choice for discerning hackers, because who doesn't love untraceable money?

We present an architecture of embedding models, vector databases, LLMs, and narrow ML for tracking global news narratives across a variety of countries/languages/news sources. As an example, we explore the real-time application of this architecture for tracking the news narrative surrounding the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny coming from Russian, French, and English sources.

Terragrunt, Terraspace, Terramate, terra... whatever. What is wrong with Terraform so people keep on creating wrappers and solutions around it? How OpenTofu will affect this dynamic? In this presentation, we will look into the fundamental driving forces behind a zoo of wrappers. Moreover, we are going to put together a wrapper ourselves so you can make an educated decision if you need one.

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.
