4. Business formulation:
The journey of “Jarvis Digital” started with the initial step of Abdullah Bakr. He along
with four other partners have started the business in Gulshan. Personal goal has influenced
them to fulfil their dream come true. All of them knew each other from school days. Their
aspiration was same as they grew up all together with same bonding. From their very young
age they were interested in doing business. They got separated because of education. Some
went to abroad and some stayed in Bangladesh.
However, Abdullah Bakr went abroad for higher studies. Being a marketing student, he was
fascinated in doing business from the very beginning of his university life. There he gained
practical knowledge about how to start business in this competitive world. But he had less idea
about Bangladesh business market. So when he came back in Bangladesh, he was confused
whether to do business or not. During his study time in America, he had a business idea which
was people who wants to stay back at home can enjoy outside restaurants’ foods of any kind
by just a call away to them. However, when he got back, there was already “Foodpanda” in
Bangladesh. So he was disappointed and started doing job in Banglalink. But he learned a
lesson that if you have any good plans to execute then one should just do it rather thinking a
lot and wait for someone else to grab the opportunity. Though he was regretting but he didn’t
give up. He tried to make creative business plan. He had very well knowledge in brand
marketing. Therefore, he thought about doing digital marketing and online marketing was not
very popular back in 2014. Then he did a campaign for Banglalink. He got a good response
and realized this could be a very good business. His idea was, establishing a digital marketing
agency specializing in bringing different brands online with unique online strategies, technical
and graphical innovations.
Initially Abdullah Bakr thought to start alone. But he realised that he needs some
financial support. So he talked with his old friends who had interest doing business. He also
discussed his business idea with some experienced business people. Though they liked his
creative business idea but later on they did not join Abdullah. As he was new in business sector
and had no practical experience, they did not take part in his business. When he failed to get
partners, some people demotivated him not to do business too. But he didn’t lose hope and kept
trying. In the end, he got his old buddies to execute his business idea. These werehis old school
friends who gained practical experience by doing small businesses in Bangladesh.

5. Entrepreneur’s background:
Abdullah Bakr is a high achieving, self-motivated, efficient and creative marketer. He
gained specialized skills in Brand Building, Digital and Social Media Marketing and extensive
work experience in PR and communication. He has been involved in devising, reviewing and
defining the overall marketing and Brand communication strategies of various products
launches. He sets high standards for himself where he is flexible, adaptive and competent in
working in a fast paced, growth oriented work environment. He had completed his graduation
from State University of New York at Buffelo.
Capital risk:
As Abdullah was going to establish a start-up so he faced financial problem. He had to
invest a huge amount of money. He tried to gather some capital from banks. Unfortunately
banks were reluctant to give him loans. He was new in business and he had nothing as
collateral. Then he contacted with his friends and close friends for funding. He and his friends
invested 55% from their own pocket. They borrowed 45% of money from other close friends
and relatives. They also got strong support from family. Abdullah Bakr thinks family support
played a vital role in his whole business career from the beginning till present time. When he
found difficulty managing capital his family stood thereby with cash.

6. Ongoing Challenges for Jarvis Digital:
Intensive Rivalry from the New and Existing Digital Agencies:
Although there are many establish competitors for ‘Jarvis Digital’ in the market, (e.g.
Analyzen, Bitnik, Magnito etc.) the major rivals are the new entrants with limited recourses.
According to the CEO of Jarvis Digital, Mr. Abdullah Bakr “When we submit price to our
clients they always ask me why the price is too high for your agency. The reason is what the
new entrants can offer at 50 taka we might charge 1000 taka for that. The reason is, we have
highly qualified professionals who have graduated from some of the most renowned
universities where the new entrant’s only resources are some laptops and cameras and a few
colleagues because anybody can open a digital agency this days.”
This is one of the biggest challenges for ‘Jarvis Digital’ to attract clients which they face almost
every day and fail to get contracts form the clients.
Supply Shortage of Quality Human Resource for Digital Marketing: Digital marketing is
an emerging as well as new concept in the context of marketing. In Bangladesh the concept is
almost new that’s why the major universities of Bangladesh hardly provide a proper ground for
learning and developing the concept of Digital marketing. In, NSU the course MKT 330 which
is wholly about digital marketing was introduced in 2016 before that there was no course
regarding this concept. The scenario is pretty similar in all the major universities where the
focus is still on the traditional marketing. That’s why there is a shortage of quality human
resource in the industry of digital marketing and digital promotion.
Educating the Clients: In Bangladesh, the marketing tools are still applied in the traditional
way. The marketing activities are basically based on TVCs, RDCs and activation. The trend of
attracting the customers digitally is still not so popular like other countries of the world.
Because of this, the clients’ trust is more on the conventional marketing agencies than the
digital agencies. To make the clients feel more interested to the digital agencies, Jarvis Digital
needs additional effort while preparing their business proposal for their clients.
6
7. Viral Dilemma: Since the trend of digital marketing is totally new in the context of Bangladesh
and the clients have limited idea about the effectively of digital marketing, they have a common
misconception that if the promotional content is viral, only then it is effective. So, the clients
always pressurize the creative team of Jarvis Digital to make such content that have the
potential of being viral. However, digital marketing is more about customized promotion and
the process of measuring the affectivity of the content is very complex. The content is effective
only when the specific target group is reached, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the content has
to be viral. Almost every day, Jarvis Digital faces this dilemma.
Critical Successful factors
There are a lot of factors which helped them to become successful but regardless of the key
calculated factors the main reason behind it was the CEO’s motivation and dedication for doing
the business. As of today, he still wants to work as hard as the same way he did at the beginning
of this business to reach the position where he planned to reach. And this is to become one of
those market leaders in this sector. However, some of the calculated successful factors are;
Environmental Analysis
Entrepreneurial Characteristics
Strong networking
Experience in job
Environmental analysis: Before starting the business they had done market analysis of this
sector where they found low barrier to entry and less competition since this sector was new in
the market and a lot had no idea about what a digital marketing agency does? As market being
almost empty the opportunity for a new firm to do well was greater. Moreover, there was no
such barriers from government on this sector, as the sector was growing the government had
good command of this business.
Entrepreneurial Characteristics: They were five people to start the business but the two guys
including the CEO were very passionate about the business and who actually believed in them
to do good and become a good entrepreneur. Talking about the CEO, what he believed that if
7
8. you don’t fail once then you would never have the taste of being successful. That being said,
he was failed once before starting this business, it was not about something like that he started
a business that failed but about the idea he had and didn’t have the guts to execute the idea.
Later on he found out to have this business idea implemented by some other people and had
made a huge success. So after this he always had this hunger inside him to do something and
once he had the idea of doing this business he didn’t do late to execute it.
Strong networking: The CEO has been working for Banglalink right before starting of this
business (Jarvis digital). Since he was working as a brand promoter for Banglalink, he had very
good networking with the outside and inside people working in this sector. However, this has
helped him to get works through them. And now people in this sectors knows the CEO as owing
his own firm and the good relationship CEO had with the clients led all the recommendations
works come to his agency rather client going for other agencies who would eventually be very
professional with them.
Experience in job: All of the owners have been doing job before starting of this business
among them two of them were doing similar kind of job for different agencies. However, from
that they have gained good experience of how to get the job done. So it helped them a lot for
their own agency to speed up and execute the experience they gained from other reputed
agencies.

Jarvis Digital’s business strategy is mainly depended on providing quality service at the most
affordable price. They have designed their strategy based on customers need. Where they tried
to figure out the want of customers. And they found that customers are concern about the
service quality and pricing of the service. And the market is very price sensitive. So they
