3. INTRODUCTION
GENDER PARITY may be defined as discrimination against
women based on their sex. Women are traditionally
considered by the society as weaker sex. She has been
accorded a subordinate position to men. She is exploited,
degraded, violated and discriminated both in our homes
and in outside world. This peculiar type of discrimination
against women is prevalent everywhere in the world and
more so in Indian society.
4. Causes of Gender Parity
1 Bad mentality - Most people believe that women cannot
rule big organizations. Even the women themselves have the same
mentality that they cannot most of top positions.
2 Education level
Lack of proper educations one of the major causes of gender
inequality. Many families do not pay proper attention to girl child.
They see them not better as compared to men
3 Tradition and culture
Culture and traditions are one of the major reasons which makes
female to be regarded as not important, in many African
countries. Some of the village elders in most communities do not
support women leadership

religion plays a very important role in every human, there exists
some weaknesses in some religions which acts as cages t the
women.
5 Empowerment
Women lack enough empowerment in some parts of the world.
Understanding the importance of empowerment will motivate
women and curb the issue of gender inequality.

• Violence Against Women, Sexual Assault and
Rape: The mental health effects of sexual assault and rape can
have jarring results on women’s stability and livelihoods
.
• Child Marriage: Globally, almost 750 million women and girls
alive today married before their eighteenth birthday
.
• Human Trafficking: Adult women and girls account for 71
percent of all human trafficking victims detected globally.
• Economic Independence: Increases in female labor force
participation result in faster economic growth, but women
continue to participate in labor markets on an unequal basis
with men.
8. Steps taken by govt for elimination of
gender parity
There are many such schemes that have been introduced. Here is a
quick summary of recent government schemes for women:
• Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, meant for uplifting women in the
sphere of women’s education
• Sukanya Samriddhi Account, meant to help families’ save for
their daughters
• One Stop Center scheme meant to offer easy access for women
suffering from domestic abuse or violence, and needing support
• Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana meant to offer free LPG
connections to women living below poverty line
• Mahila Haat meant to support women entrepreneurs and
women self help groups
9. • Rajiv Gandhi National Crèche Scheme for Children of
Working Mothers meant to provide affordable daycare
services to working women .
• Maternity Benefit Scheme meant for pregnant women and
lactating mothers .
• Women’s Helpline 1091 meant to provide emergency
assistance to women in trouble, especially those facing
violence of any kind .
