1. Military commissaries
worldwide returned to normal
operating schedules Aug. 18 when
Defense Department furloughs
ended early.
“This is welcome news for us
all,” said Joseph H. Jeu.
“We recognize the disruption
that furloughs presented to our
patrons as far as access to their
commissary benefit,” he added.
“We also understand the
economic hardships many of our
employees faced with the pay
they lost during the furlough
period.”
Since July 8, the one-day-per-
week furloughs impacted all of
DeCA’s more than 14,000 U.S.
civilian employees worldwide.

Store Director’s Scoop
With furloughs behind us, the
Fort Riley Commissary is back
to our regular 7-day-a-week
operating schedule. We hope you
have noticed that checkout lines
are shorter and we have more
registers open, especially during
peak times. Our goal remains to
minimize your wait time as
much as possible and save you
money every day.
Case lot sales were cancelled
this year but don’t despair, we
have continued to get special
buys from our vendors to offer
you terrific prices. The
difference is there won’t be a big
tent and a long wait to get in.
Instead you will see savings all
month long up and down the
aisles, around the perimeter of
the store, and in massive display
areas. These are the same
products you would have seen in
the tent, but now you will have
weeks to buy what you want
rather than only a few days.
Come look around and don’t miss
any thing. You’re sure to save
BIG on all the things you want
and need.
I also want to tell you about
“Scan Down” days that will
focus on specific products at
absolute dynamite pricing. Our
vendors are supporting our
community with special deals at
50-percent off on specific days.
The first Scan Down sale will
begin Sept. 12. With two more
planned for later in the month,
check our website often for the
exact days and items.
If you prefer to be notified via
e-mail, you can sign up for our
Electronic Broadcast by sending
Marcie Scipio,
marcie.scipio@deca.mil, an e-
mail and she will add you to our
distribution list, which will give
you this and other noteworthy
information about your Fort
Riley Commissary.
Our next early closure will be
Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. in observance of
Columbus Day.
As always, “Your Commissary
