The document discusses creating your own standards and definitions rather than relying on outside images or other people's definitions. It argues that meanings and what constitutes success or happiness are personal and different for everyone. It advises giving up outside images and focusing on your own definitions for what you want to achieve. Finally, it provides action steps to write down your personal standards and determine where existing standards came from so you can create new standards that fit your life.
2. Where do meanings come from?
• In life, words and things mean differently for each person
• The meanings all depend on you
• For example, when you say the word “flower,” each person
will think and have a different image and meaning
• One person would think the flower will smell good
• Another person would think the flower is a pretty thing
• Or another person would think it is for decoration
• In this case, the flower has many meanings
• Whatever your meaning is for the flower, it is up to you
3. Create your own standards
• Whatever you want to achieve for yourself, it depends on your
own definition
• For example, if you want to become successful, it depends on
your definition of success
• When you use other people definition of success, it will be
difficult for you to achieve it because you are trying to achieve
someone else success
• Even though other people definition of success might not be bad,
it is still not yours definition
• It is the same with happiness
• Each person will have a different life purpose that will bring them
happiness
4. Give up the outside images
• You have to give up the outside images in order to figure out what
you consider success or happiness is to be, or whatever you want
to achieve
• You want to stay focused on your own definition
• Even though society has standards for what success and happiness
are, you do not have to follow those standards if you do not
believe in them
• It does not matter how many people have the same standards on
success and happiness or not, if they do not fit in with your
lifestyle, then you should not adopt them as yours own
• This goes for all areas of your life; health, relationship, family,
friendship, etc.
5. No two same standards
• In life, as human beings, no two people will have the same
standards
• You might have similar standard as other people, but they are not
the same
• If your standards are lower than other people in certain areas,
then it does not mean your standards are bad
• It definitely does not mean you have to change yours to meet
other people standards
• It does not mean people are better or smarter than you when they
have higher standards than you
• If you try to reach other people standards, it means you are trying
to impress them
6. Live life with ease
When you are working toward your own standards,
they will be easy and enjoyable for you in order to
accomplish things
Sometimes it might take you awhile to reach your
standards of success or happiness, but they will be
pleasant journeys
7. Action Steps
• 1. write down every area of your life
• 2. write down what does success or happiness look and feel
like to you in each area. For example, what does success and
happiness in health mean to you? What does success and
happiness in relationship mean to you?
• 3. For each area, ask yourself if you have a difficult time
reaching or moving forward in your level of success and
happiness or not? If you are having trouble, then it means
you are trying to accomplish someone else standard
8. Action Steps
• 4. For each area that you are having trouble with, then think
and write down where did that standard come from? How
did you come up with that standard? Where did you read it
from? Where did you watch it from? Who did you hear it
from? Where did you learn it from?
• 5. Create a new standard for yourself. If one standard does
not work, keep on finding a standard that match your life.
Do not give up.
