Presented at Youth Engagement Summit , Mauritius 5 th
December, 2013
3. Introduction
Live streaming: Listening or viewing multimedia apps in
real time
The traditional streaming media: Usually via the internet.
Intranet webcast requires no global network or
broadband like the internet.
This experiment describes a technology for live
streaming of various TV programs on a local area
network
It is accessible from mobile phones, Internet TVs,
tablets and PCs.
4. Motivations
Youth
engagement/Hands on
The need for internet connection for
traditional live streaming
Recurrent cost for bandwidth particularly in
African region
Broadband penetration: USA 75%
Digital dividend: Global and National
Bandwidth Management (Saving): FTP,
HTTP do not require much bandwidth as
multimedia applications

an attached 17dBi grid antenna.
14. Roaming Supports
Repeaters maintains a single SSID throughout the
wireless cloud
Repeaters are on bridge mode
End user’s device will not need to re-initiate connection
with the next repeater
The mobile device assumes the same access point all
over the coverage area.
Hence, the IP address is not changed and the streaming
session is not interrupted.
15. Testing
Users connect to the network and been assign an IP by the router
To connect to this stream, a user must lunch a browser from his
device and log on to the URL www.datalink.net (192.168.10.10)
Click liveTV on the web page

18. Further work and challenges
Further work
Multiple streams broadcast where users can choose what
to watch
Performance evaluation
Embedding the solution on WMN infrastructure, project
funded by AFRINIC
Commercializing?
Challenges
