4. INTRODUCTION
The history of cricket in Bangladesh predates the foundation of
the Bangladeshi state in 1971 by nearly two centuries. Cricket
was introduced to Bengal. After winning the 1997 ICC Trophy
and making a good showing at the 1999 Cricket World Cup,
Bangladesh created its National Cricket League (NCL) in 1999–
2000 to prepare the way for Full Membership of the ICC. This
was granted in 2000 and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)
was formally established. In November 2000, the Bangladesh
national team played its inaugural Test match against India at
the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

of Bangladesh Cricket came from the bat of Mehrab Hossain,

2000: Bangladesh attains the status of a test playing country on 26 June.

2004: In December, Bangladesh defeats World Cup Runners-up India at the
Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, It was Bangladesh’s overall sixth win in
one-dayers, but the first ODI victory on home soil. It was also only their third win
against a Test-playing nation after defeating Pakistan in the 1999 World Cup in
England and beating Zimbabwe in March 2004.
2005: In January, Bangladesh records their maiden test victory with a thumping 226
runs win over Zimbabwe. This was the 35th test for Bangladesh. Bangladesh team
also secures its first ever Test and ODI series wins.
In June, Bangladesh defeats world champions Australia in a Natwest Series ODI
match. Mohammad Ashraful is the hero with a run-a-ball century.
2006 : A very successful year for Bangladesh Cricket as they won 18 one-day
internationals, eight in a row, out of 28 games. They were just two wins behind
from world champions Australia in this year’s one-day success table. Bangladesh
has also surpassed Zimbabwe in the ICC one day cricket rankings.

Bangladesh Premier League was the first season of the Bangladesh Premier League
established by Bangladesh Cricket Board. The competition featured six teams and a
tournament format with a double round robin group stage, two semi-finals and a
final. The inaugural BPL was won by Dhaka Gladiators.
2012 : Asia cup 2012 Bangladesh came runners up in tournament
West Indian cricket team in Bangladesh, Bangladesh won the 5-match ODI Series 3–

the second season of the Bangladesh Premier League was held. BPL was won by
Dhaka Gladiators again.
