PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:
OK Health Mentoring Program – Full implementation to all 37, 000 active state employees in January 2006
and presently ongoing.
Pilot Program July 2003 – December 2005 Department of Human Services.
The goal of OK Health Mentoring program is to give employees the right tools to help them feel
better and improve your health.
A web based, scientifically proven, one-on-one health mentoring provided to employees at no charge.
Participants have an initial visit to their PCP with particular labs.
Participants receive at least 20 telephonic visits from a professional health mentor.
Access to a secured web site in which the participant fills out an extensive Health History
Questionnaire.
Participants have access 100 education kits in a PDF format and audio.
Mentor works with the participant to establish personalized, twelve-month goals and action plans
tailored for their specific health needs.
Areas of focus in the program are:
o physical activities,
o healthy nutrition,
o smoking cessation,
o stress management,
o diabetes management,
o Cardiovascular disease prevention and control.
Rural Oklahoma Health Awareness Development – R.O.A.D. Pilot Project January 1998
The R.O.A.D Project was designed to facilitate health awareness among underserved state employees,
to motivate positive health behavior changes, reach rural employees sites where health information is
not readily available, and generate awareness of the State Wellness Program among state employees.
The program used a health risk appraisal (HRA), biomedical screening and counseling/referral to
determine and affect health status.
The R.O.A.D Project was piloted in four state agencies and rolled out to all state agencies in January
1999 through 2001.
