For any new idea define what problem are you solving, who is your customer and what solution would you want to develop. For video explanation go to this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGR_xcjxupU
3. PROBLEM
What problem are we solving?
Explain the problem in terms of a situation: Have you ever
had a situation where you have to do X but you are stuck
because of ABC reason......
Taxi example:
Have you ever had a situation where you have to reach to
your meeting, there is no way for you to get a taxi. Your
usual guy won’t pick up the call or is not available. You
reach to a taxi stand and there is a long queue. So you end
up getting late for work/meeting.
iTunes example:
While buying the music at the store do you ever feel that
you have to buy the whole CD or cassette (if you a not a
millennial) , although you just like 1 song in the whole
album
4. CUSTOMER
Who is the user/prospective customer?
Who has the above said problem? Are they doing something today
to solve that problem?
Who will pay for the solution if you solve the problem for them?
Taxi example:
A 30 year software engineer who travels more than 20 kms per
day to work via taxi. Currently they are relying mostly on company
provided travel which has a fix schedule or they book a taxi few
days in advance.
iTunes example:
As a music listener (mostly teenager and 20 something), I don’t
want to buy complete album for 10$ just because I like one song. I
would like to discover new music, listen to it and then only buy the
song I like
5. CUSTOMER
Be as specific as possible:
1. A school going girl between the age of 15 - 18 (a social network
meant for fashion targeting teenage girls)
2. A mid size retailer with more than 5 stores in electronic business
(a store analytics product that help increase sales based on data)
Avoid this:
1. All smart phone users
2. All males who drive
3. Women between 18-65
6. SOLUTION
What is the product vision/solution?
Define what solution you want to build for the
aforementioned problem.
Taxi example:
We want to build a mobile app which allows users to
browse through taxis around them and book one
immediately. Additionally users will be able to directly Pay
via app and also Rate the driver
iTunes example:
We want to build a software where users can browse
through all the music that is available, search for artists,
listen to parts of songs and if they like it buy that song.
