Narseo Vallina-Rodriguez presented on measuring mobile network performance using the ICSI Netalyzr tool. The tool checks connectivity characteristics and network properties from the user edge. Preliminary results found radio access network latency is often lower than IP latency, and some operators leak private user information in HTTP headers. Next steps are understanding how mobile traffic and networks behave in real-world use and anticipating future demands from technologies like IoT.
