SUNDAY July 21st, 2013 NEWS AND NOTES
 Ring Praise Benefit Concert
Emmett First Presbyterian Church is teaming up with Ring
Praise Music Ministry to present a benefit concert for the
needs of the two Emmett churches who have suffered fire
damage - Community Bible Church and First Baptist
Church. The concert will feature Phyllis Tincher, handbell
soloist, and Sean Rogers, pianist. This concert will be at the
Presbyterian Church (212 E. Third Street) today at 3:00 p.m.
An offering will be taken and the money will be used to help
in the reconstruction and furnishing needs of the damaged
churches.

It has been a great three years. Thank you to all the volunteers. We
appreciate you.
 Wednesday Night Potluck
Wednesday evening meals in the summer are potluck. If you
would like to join us, please bring food to share.
 Caleb’s Clan BBQ
Caleb’s Clan will begin monthly gatherings on August 9
with a Western BBQ at the Poole home, at 6:00 p.m. Put this
date on your calendar.
 Compassionate Ministries Salad Luncheon
Our annual Compassionate Ministries Salad Lunch will be
August 11 after the morning service.
 Thank you so much Helping Hands ministry men for weed eating,
sawing down trees, and trimming and pruning bushes on my place. I

The generosity of Nazarenes was seen again through the “Clothing
Ministry” that took place at General Assembly last month. Delegates
from around the world were offered an opportunity to “shop” through
donated clothing items and take what they needed. Some delegates
shared that they would be taking the items back to their home country
for people in need.
PRAY FOR
 In 1958 the Church of the Nazarene was invited to come to Ameri-
can Samoa by one of its chiefs, Robert Manama, who had come
to the Lord in the Samoan Church of the Nazarene in Hawaii. By
1959, a group of about 45 people were holding services in the
home of Chief Manama. Today, there are 20 Nazarene churches
in Samoan Islands – 19 in Samoa and 1 in American Samoa. Ask
God to bless the ministry and lives of believers in these churches
and that through them, many people will come to know Jesus as
Savior.
 The four countries where the Church of the Nazarene currently
has active work on the Western Mediterranean Field (Spain, Por-
tugal, Italy and France) consist of more than 90 percent Roman
Catholics. Protestant denominations are viewed as “the church of
the immigrant” at best and a cult/sect at worst. Many of our Euro-
pean Nazarenes also face pressure and disassociation from their
families due to their involvement with the Church of the Nazarene.
Other challenges include: materialism and relative financial secu-
rity, the cost of living (even a small apartment can cost $300,000
to $500,000 USD in some parts of our field), an immigrant mental-
ity that can serve as an obstacle to creative thinking about what
an effective church in the post-Christian, European context might
look like.
