2013 Library Snapshot Day:
A Day in the Life of
Your Library
April 14-20 National Library Week
Library Snapshot Day provides a way for libraries
of all types across a state, region, system or
community to show what happens in a single
day in their libraries. How many books are
checked out? How many people receive help
finding a job? Doing their homework? Library
patrons are also asked to comment on what
their libraries mean to them.

Nebraska Library Snapshot Day

  • 1. 2013 Library Snapshot Day: A Day in the Life of Your Library April 14-20 National Library Week
  • 2. Library Snapshot Day provides a way for libraries of all types across a state, region, system or community to show what happens in a single day in their libraries. How many books are checked out? How many people receive help finding a job? Doing their homework? Library patrons are also asked to comment on what their libraries mean to them.
  • 3. 7381 people visited Omaha Public libraries. ONE DAY IN OMAHA PUBLIC LIBRARIES
  • 4. 63 students asked homework help questions in one day at Omaha Public libraries. 49 people asked database questions in one day at Omaha Public libraries.
  • 5. One Day of Library Programs In one day there were 19 programs held by Omaha Public libraries. In one day 553 people attended programs in Omaha Public libraries. Programs in Nebraska libraries are for children, teens and adults.
  • 6. One day in Omaha Public libraries  11 e-government questions  63 Employment help questions  186 Reference questions  2391 Computer users  5347 Materials circulated
  • 7. COMMENTS FROM OMAHA PUBLIC LIBRARY PATRONS “The library is a sanctuary. It’s a place to relax, focus, finish schoolwork.” “It means a lot. Available resources for those that are less fortunate. Also provide growth and education.” “Information is the greatness of human living. The free flow of info and entertainment make life worth living.” “The library provides resources for my academics, as well as for fun reading!” “The library is my only means of locating books that were printed in the 1930’s and 1940’s.” “A place to get away and be able to get things done, use the computers and help my kids grow.”
  • 8. One Day in the Life of Gretna Public Library 178 people visited Gretna Public Library. 36 people attended 2 library programs.
  • 9. In one day, Gretna Public Library answered  1 employment question  3 homework questions  27 reference questions In one day, Gretna Public Library  Answered 1 database question  Had 11 computer users In one day, Gretna Public Library checked out 418 items.

Our kids have a love of reading in part due to their experiences at the library!”

  • 13. In one day, Lied Randolph Public Library held 6 programs. In one day, 35 people attended programs at Lied Randolph Public Library.

  • 15. One Day in Southern Public Schools High School Library In one day, 112 students (and one rabbit) visited the library and 155 items were checked out.
  • 16. Answered 5 employment help questions. In One Day, Southern Public Schools High School Library… Answered 49 reference questions. Answered 4 e-government questions. Answered 15 homework questions. Answered 3 database questions. Had 65 computer users.

  • 21. Despite the bad weather, Agnes Robinson Waterloo Public Library held a children’s program with 12 attending.
  • 22. A Day in the Life of Pawnee City Public Library 66 items were checked out. 78 people visited the library.

  • 25. “Reading is a passion of mine and I do not have Wi-Fi at home so it works out great. The “Librarians” are an asset!!” “Very special for our town and a town our size.” “I have a nice, friendly environment to come to when I have homework. Also, I like to come and use the computers for homework when our computer at home is being SUPER slow!” “Quite a bit because I’m Amish and we can’t have internet so I was here today to get my turkey license.   • 26. One Day in the Life of Freeman/Lozier Library In one day, Freeman/Lozier Library circulated 10 items and maintains a dynamic presence with it’s 24/7 access to a librarian and databases. In one day, Freeman/Lozier Library,  Answered 3 homework and database questions  Answered 14 reference questions  Had 33 computer users 350 People visited Freeman/Lozier Library in one day. Freeman/Lozier Library held 1 library program with 55 people in attendance.

Thanks BU.” What Does Bellevue University’s Freeman/Lozier Library Mean to Its Students? “It’s a great place to find information and get help with research.” “Access to reference databases online.” “Great research for students both in person and online.” “Collection of useful sources and provide full facility to a student.” “Helps me do work a lot, open at great hours.”
  • 28. Lincoln High School Library Media Center • In one day, 654 students visited the media center, 131 reference questions were answered and 87 items were circulated. How do Lincoln High School Students Feel About Their Library Media Center “The library means everything…It’s my life. I would be dead without it.” “I enjoy my library as the people are friendly and always willing to help in any way possible.” “I think the library is a very fun and safe place and I like to read and I can be myself here. It is very quiet in the library.” “The library is a great place to hangout with my friends. It’s also a good place to do homework. I can focus better on my homework in the library than at home.” “It means I can come here and do things that are productive instead of going home and doing things that are unproductive. Sometimes I do homework.”
  • 29. One day at Plattsmouth Public Library The library held 2 programs, att ended by 32 people. The library answered 22 reference questions. 23 People used the computers. 161 people visited the library, checking out 183 items. Plattsmouth Public Library answered,  3 Employment, home work and database questions  22 Reference questions
