Creating Authentic Learning with Moodle (CALM) is a workshop on EdMedia in Vancouver June 28, 2016. CALM focused on the design and implementation of Moodle courses for fully online, blended learning, the flipped classroom, and MOOCs. Participants will learn about socially engaging resources, activities, blocks available in Moodle 2.9. as teachers in the Teacher Practice Area (TPA) and managers in the Manager Practice Area (MPA) of a course. Attendees will engage in authentic learning as they create video tutorials using screencast-o-matic or Slidespeech to document and showcase their work.

Participants of Creating Authentic Learning with
Moodle (CALM) will receive administrator rights as
teachers of a Moodle course, so they can explore
the resources and activities available in a Moodle
course. After exploring the resources and activities,
participants will document their work by creating
video tutorials using screencasts-o-matic or
Slidespeech. They will add their video tutorials on

Part 2: Learning and Teaching with Moodle (30 min):
Learn to navigate a Moodle course, use the rich editor and record
audio and video using PoodLL, navigate and update personal
Moodle profile, and post to the online discussion forums.
Discuss the meaning of authentic learning and brainstorm ideas for
collaborative lessons and projects.
Choose the format for the course: fully online, blended, or flipped.

Explore, apply, and document the resources available on Moodle
(labels, books, web links, file links, compose web pages)
Explore, apply, and document the activities available on the Moodle

Part 4: Set Up a Course (90 min):
Explore, apply, and document the blocks (plugins) available on the
Moodle.
Learn about the administration of a course.
Set up a course, add users, create groups, grades, and categories.
Create 2 min video-tutorials about one of the Moodle features or
tools.

Part 5: Show and Tell (30 min)
Present individual course sections with utilized Moodle tools (activities
and resources).
Share the video tutorials used to capture the features on Moodle
Reflect and share feedback on the Moodle experience.
