• The increasing presence of women as entrepreneurs has led to
significant business and economic growth in the country. Women-
owned business enterprises are playing a prominent role in society by
generating employment opportunities in the country, bringing in
demographic shifts and inspiring the next generation of women
founders.
Training of Rural Youth for Self-Employment
(TRYSEM)
• The Training of Rural Youth for Self-Employment or commonly
abbreviated as TRYSEM is a scheme launched by the government of
India through the Department of Rural Development on the 15th of
August 1979.
What are the objectives of the TRYSEM?
• Some of the broader objectives of the Training of Rural Youth for Self-
Employment are:
• To provide technical skills to rural youth especially to those from the
below poverty line.
• To enable rural youngsters to take up self-employment opportunities
in larger fields of agriculture and various allied activities.
• To make the scheme effective, implementing these objectives
efficiently becomes vital.
National Bank of Agriculture and Rural
Development(NABARD)
• NABARD is an organisation that was established to improve the
developments in the agricultural and rural sectors. Find out about the
establishment and the organisation through this article. Full form of
NABARD is National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development. It is
a government organization with its headquarters in Mumbai,
Maharashtra.
Functions of NABARD
• NABARD is an apex institution that can deal with various matters
concerning policy, planning and operation in providing credit for
agriculture and other economic activities in the rural areas. It
prepares rural credit plans every year for all districts in the country.
• The organization works as a re-financing agency for those institutions
which provide investment and promotion credit for promoting the
several developmental programs for rural development. It also
promotes research in rural banking and agriculture and rural
development.
• Provide financial support for the commercial banks and Regional
Rural Banks and the training institutes of co-operative banks.
• It communicates and consults the RBI in matters such as issuing
licenses for new banks and opening the branches of rural banks.
• Help banks to improve their MIS systems, modernize their technology,
and develop human resources.
• It promotes rural industries, small scale and cottage industries by
providing loans to commercial and Cooperative banks.
National Mission for Empowerment of Women
(NMEW)
• The National Mission for Empowerment of Women (NMEW) was
operationalised during 2011-12 with the aim of achieving holistic
empowerment of women.
• The focus was to bring convergence of efforts through inter-sectoral
coordination amongst different ministries and programmes, with the
Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) acting as the
nodal agency.
• Following the restructuring during the 12th Plan period, NMEW was
approved for continuation as a sub-scheme of the Umbrella Scheme
for Protection and Development of Women.
• Under the revised Scheme, technical support to MWCD is being
provided by domain experts who are involved in the implementation
and monitoring of new initiatives of the Ministry like Beti Bachao Beti
Padhao (BBBP Scheme), One Stop Centres, Women Helpline etc.
• NMEW would also focus on Training and Capacity Building to enhance
and strengthen understanding of gender issues, and build a Resource
Pool (trainers) at the National and State level to bridge gaps between
knowledge and practice. At the national level, experts would be
engaged in the area of:
• i) Poverty alleviation and economic empowerment
• (ii) Health and nutrition
• (iii) Gender budgeting and Gender mainstreaming
• (iv) Gender rights, gender based violence and law enforcement
• (v) Empowerment of vulnerable and marginalised groups
• (vi) Social empowerment and education
• (vii) Media and advocacy
• (viii) Information technology.
Trade Related Entrepreneurship Assistance and
Development (TREAD) Scheme for Women
• The scheme is called the “TREAD” scheme. The TREAD stands for
“Trade-Related Entrepreneurship Assistance and Development”.
What is the main goal of the TREAD scheme? The aim of the TREAD
scheme is to empower women economically. It will be by the
development of their entrepreneurship skills in the non-farm activity.
Eligibility
• Be a legal entity with a minimum registration of three years.
• Having experience in thrift and saving programmes with Self-Help
Groups (SHGs).
• Be engaged in income generation activities for women entrepreneurs.
• Have basic infrastructure, qualified support staff and services to
undertake micro-enterprise development for women.
• Prior experience in preparing project proposals on behalf of women
entrepreneurs / women SHGs for income generation activities and
take loan from financial institutions for onward disbursement to
them.
Gramin Bank
• Gramin Bank (Bengali: গ্রামীণ ব্াাংক) is a microfinance organisation
and community development bank founded in Bangladesh. It makes
small loans (known as microcredit or "grameencredit")[6] to the
impoverished without requiring collateral.
• Grameen Bank originated in 1976, in the work of Professor
Muhammad Yunus at University of Chittagong, who launched a
research project to study how to design a credit delivery system to
provide banking services to the rural poor. In October 1983 the
Grameen Bank was authorised by national legislation to operate as an
independent bank.
