OpenID Connect is a simple identity layer built on top of the OAuth 2.0 protocol. It allows clients to verify the identity of an end-user based on authentication performed by an authorization server, and also obtain basic profile information about the end-user in a REST-like manner. OpenID Connect provides a way for clients to verify the identity of the end-user via an authorization server, while also receiving basic profile data about the user.
