MODEL ANSWER (CHARACTER)
Question: Based on one novel above, describe an admirable character who succeeded in life.
The novel I learnt is Catch Us If You Can by Catherine MacPhail. This novel is about
a young boy named Rory who liveswith his Granda who looked afterhim after his father
left him and his mother when he was a baby. The admirable character is Rory. I admire
Rory because he is responsible, brave and forgiving.
First of all, Rory is responsible despite being very young. This is because Rory
does all the shopping, cooking and cleaning. He always makes sure that Granda takes
his medicine and he looks after him. Rory refuses to be in the football teambecause he
has to look after Granda. Rory feels responsible to look after Granda because Granda
looked after him all his life so Rory needs to look after him now that Granda is sick, old
and forgetful.
Moreover, Rory is also thoughtful. This is because Rory understands how Granda
feels. After their flat went down in fire, Granda was placed in Rachnadar. Granda hates
this place. Knowing how much Rachnadar frightens Granda and how bad the nurses
there treat him, Rory finally planned to his ‘Great Escape’. He talked to his best friend,
Darren, who gives the spare key of his mother’s caravan to Rory.
Apart from that, Rory is also forgiving. During their escape trip, Rory and Granda
met several people. One of them is Norma. She was worried about Granda who is sick
so she reported about Rory and his Granda to the police. Even though Norma nearly
ruined their escape plan, Rory still forgives him. In fact, Rory also forgives his father
who walked out of his life when he was little, leading to his mother’s death.
In conclusion, I admire Rory because he is responsible, brave and forgiving. I
hope I can be such a responsible, brave and forgiving person just like Rory.

In my opinion, Rory can be a good example to everyone.

MODEL ANSWER (THEME)
Question: Based on one novel above, write on the main theme.
The novel I learnt is Catch Us If You Can by Catherine MacPhail. This novel is about
a young boy named Rory who liveswith his Granda who looked afterhim afterhis father
left him and his mother when he was a baby. The main theme in this novel is helping
one another.
First of all is when Darren helps Rory with his ‘Great Escape’ plan. This is shown
in the story after Rory witnessed how bad a nurse treated Granda in Rachnadar. It took
Rory 3 days to make his decision but he could not decide where to go so he talked to
Darren.Darrensuggestedthat theygo to his mum’s caravan because it is secludedand
nobody would find them. As Rory agrees, Darren gave the spare key of the caravan to
Rory.
Moreover, Sammy and his family help Rory and Granda when the police
discovered their location. This is shown in the story when Rory and Granda were hiding
in the caravan. After several days, Rory received a text message from Darren telling
themto run away because the police knew where they are. While hiding from the police,
Sammy and his son, Tyrone, came to help them. They led the two escapees to their
camper van and provided food and shelter for them. The family was going north and
they want to take Rory and Granda with them. Rory is worried Sammy will get into
trouble for helping them so he decided not to follow the family.
Apart from that, Rory and Granda also received help fromRab. This is shown in the
story after they stole a car. Granda was not well when they stopped by a petrol station.
Rab filled up the petrol but did not take the money from Rory. He took Rory and Granda
to rest at his place. He advises Rory to go to his father in Liverpool. The next day, he
drove Rory and Granda to his girlfriend,Annie, who thentook themto the Lake District.
In conclusion, the main theme in this novel is helping one another. I hope I can be
as loving and have a loving family just like the children.

I think, I will be more loving towards my family starting from today.

It took Rory 3 days to make his decision but he could not decide where to go so he talked to Darren.Darrensuggestedthat theygo to his mum’s caravan because it is secludedand nobody would find them. As Rory agrees, Darren gave the spare key of the caravan to Rory. Moreover, Sammy and his family help Rory and Granda when the police discovered their location. This is shown in the story when Rory and Granda were hiding in the caravan. After several days, Rory received a text message from Darren telling themto run away because the police knew where they are. While hiding from the police, Sammy and his son, Tyrone, came to help them. They led the two escapees to their camper van and provided food and shelter for them. The family was going north and they want to take Rory and Granda with them. Rory is worried Sammy will get into trouble for helping them so he decided not to follow the family. Apart from that, Rory and Granda also received help fromRab. This is shown in the story after they stole a car. Granda was not well when they stopped by a petrol station. Rab filled up the petrol but did not take the money from Rory. He took Rory and Granda to rest at his place. He advises Rory to go to his father in Liverpool. The next day, he drove Rory and Granda to his girlfriend,Annie, who thentook themto the Lake District. In conclusion, the main theme in this novel is helping one another.
