2. Bake and Share Day
Thursday, 21st October.
The week beginning Monday 18th October is National Baking Week which is designed to get Britain baking again. All our
children will be baking in school on Thursday, 21st October, with the help of staff. At the end of the day, cakes will be sold
on the yard. Any money raised will go to Children in Need, a popular charity which is actually promoting Bake Sales as part
of its own fundraising. By participating in these events, we will be helping a good cause and having fun at the same time.
Please come and spend your pennies!

Shinewaves Competition Time
Last week’s competition was to describe in writing and/or pictures your local area, telling us why it is special and why you
enjoy walking to school. It looks like all that walking tired everyone out – You were so tired no one entered!
(We have also been having technical difficulties, which doesn’t help)
Now, to this week’s competition. NHS North West is launching a campaign to increase awareness of the seasonal flu virus.
Take a look at HYPERLINK "http://www.attishoo.com" www.attishoo.com. So this week’s competition is to design a scary
flu-bug monster. You can paint it, draw it, make a model or collage…just make sure it is scary, yucky and gross.
Pop your entries in the competition post box, outside the hall, by the morning of Wednesday 20th October.
(Unfortunately we will be too late to submit entries to the regional competition. But if you would like to do this yourself send
your entry to:

Sunflower Competition
At Norwood we have been trying to grow the World’s tallest Sunflower. In May, every child at Norwood planted a
sunflower seed in a newspaper pot and took it home to put in their garden. Over the summer months, children
have been taking special care of their seed by feeding and watering it. Mrs Coleman would like to thank everybody
for their entries and is extremely proud of everybody’s achievements. In 1st place for the tallest sunflower is Mia
Feury (4P), in second place is Oliver Potter (2W) and in third place is Charlie Clayton (1D). Congratulations to all
our winners! Look out for the competition next year.

4. 7 A-Side Football Tournaments at Stanley High 22.09.10/30.09.10
Norwood 'A' Team recently took part in two 7 A-Side tournaments at Stanley High School.
On a very wet Wednesday after school Norwood played against St. Paticks 'B' team and Kings Meadow drawing both 0 - 0.
Their last match was against Ainsdale which Norwood won 1 - 0, just missing out on the semi final places as Norwood
needed to win by two goals. A great first tournament however.
Player of the Tournament: Tom Mitchell
The second tournament, a week later, was a much better tournament weather wise - we didn't get wet! Norwood started
with a superb 4 - 0 victory against Ainsdale 'B' with an excellent performance from Tom Langford. The second game
against Kings Meadow resulted in a 2 - 1 defeat meaning that a win was needed in the final game to get through to the
semi finals. After a tight end to end match with Churchtown, it ended 0 - 0, with a magnificent header from Jamie Hough
just centimetres wide in the last minute. A valiant effort once again. Well done boys.
Player of the Tournament: Tom Langford
Teams: Aaron Rimmer, Jamie Hough, Tom Stewart, Tom Mitchell, Ashley Gavan, Lucas Thaw, Lewis Hitchcock, Tom
Langford, Matthew Vansprang-Rimmer, Jaydon Lavelle, Luke Ashton, Daniel Lawrence, Jack Wallbank, Joseph Edmunds
Norwood 3 Churchtown 1 8.10.10
Team: Aaron Rimmer, Jamie Hough, Tom Stewart, Jack Wallbank, Ashley Gavan, Tom Mitchell, Tom Langford, Daniel
Lawrence, Matthew Vansprang-Rimmer, Jaydon Lavelle, Joseph Edmunds, Lucas Thaw.
Congratulations to Norwood's 'A' Football Team who played their first league game last week away at Churchtown. The
match was largely won during the first third with an early goal from Jamie Hough in the first few minutes, setting the scene.
This was followed by another from Daniel Lawrence to make it 2 - 0 to Norwood. The third goal came through a cross from
Tom Stewart which was deflected in to make it 3 - 0. The second third started well for Churchtown however, as a stronger
team instantly attacked in the first minute to make it 3 - 1 to Norwood. After a few tense moments in the final third with
Norwood defending superbly, Churchtown were unable to make up the difference with Norwood coming out on top as 3 - 1
winners. An excellent team performance and a great start to the season. Well done boys!
