THE THIRD REPUBLIC INTHE THIRD REPUBLIC IN FRANCEFRANCE
SCHOOLANDEDUCATION:
At the beginning of the third Republic, for
Jules Ferry thought that is possible to
improve the national spirit thanks to school
and education.
ForJules Ferry, republic that is to say
school, should gatherin a spirit of
fraternity, and in a common patriotic spirit.
School should allow equality between
children of different socialsocial origins.
School should gatherchildren in a common
project, so it’s important to teach them
social life rules.
To ensure the innerpeace of country, you
should teach tolerance and the respect of
the personal freedom.
School should be free (art.1), school should
become compulsory (art.4), it became state
school in 1882 (art.2).
In France, it is forbidden to show it’s
religious beliefs at school.
