What Is Education? What Does It Mean? Essay
What is education? What does it mean to be an educated individual? People go to liberal education
institution all the time, but what is liberal education? How does liberal education affect us in the
long run. Liberal education is such an important aspect that all people should have. All the different
people in this world need different ways to learn.
Pink talks about the ideas of Mastery and Flow in his book Drive. Mastery is what urges you to get
better and better in whatever subject you choose. Mastery begins with Flow, yet Flow never
guarantees mastery. Flow is the feeling you have when you find something that you want to master.
Pink talks about how Mastery and Flow "You and I each might reach flow tomorrow morning–but
neither one of us will achieve mastery overnight."(Pink 120)
Nations, depending on their education system, are either more ahead academically or creatively. In
the United States, we are more like to be educated in a liberal way. This is because we must be
exposed to many different subject of all fields. These include; Business, Welding, the arts, History,
and of course Math and science, alongside with many other subjects. China and many other asian
countries have a two year advantage above the United States because they are actually taught and
extra two years more than the US and others with similar education systems. Asian countries also
focus mostly on the aspects of math and science subjects, and become proficient in those.

Problems with Education Essay
Problems with Education
Education is a very important aspect of the lives of all people all over the world. What we learn,
not just in the classroom, shapes who we are. We take our education everywhere we go. We use it
when talking to our buddies about sports or music, we use it while solving a math problem, we use
our education while debating with our family whether or not we should watch TV or go to the
movies. Our education is the foundation of who we are, since every decision we make and every
thought we think is dependent on what we know. Imagine how different the world would be if
everyone craved learning to such a degree that at lunch tables all over the world the topic of
conversation isn't who likes who, or how drunk...show more content...
School is also coercive, disciplinary and taught by many unmotivated teachers, so school being
mandatory is just icing on the cake. Teachers and the school system completely control the way
things are run and leave little room for students to do things their way. Teachers control what they
teach, how to teach, how to discipline, what is assigned, etc. Students need to have more of a say
in the way things are run since they are the majority. More freedom in decisions would create a
more comfortable environment and students would thus have an easier time learning. There is
also stress on a lack of communication since school is coercive. It is hard to reach a person if one
doesn?t have a relationship with that person, and one way to deal with this is through addressing
the students to hear their ideas and views on what direction should be taken. School is very similar
to an oligarchy where the faculty is the monarch and students are the populous. It should be more of
a democracy where all the students have a say in what happens, but how often is there a vote as to
class and school decisions? The current curriculum is one in which a teacher says ?jump? and a
student responds with ?how high.? And if a student responds with anything different, than they are
reprimanded or punished. Three are many aspects of school that are unhealthy to a students life that
many teachers don?t see and so these

Ideal Education Model Essay
Education is one of the most important things for a society to prosper and be safe which forms the
character and intelligence of the individuals around the world. Education makes one able to
understand what is happening in the world logically and clearly. Education enables individuals to
put their potential to use and make a difference in the future. It is essential for individuals to be
educated in a way that they will expand their knowledge vastly. An ideal educational model is very
difficult to achieve, and is often argued over by people in society.
Every person in the world is unique in their own way, having their own strengths and weaknesses.
Everyone has a learning style that is unique to them, developed over time. It is absurd...show more

It is also very important to maintain complete respect for the student. No matter what skill level a
student has they should be treated equally to all other students. "The secret of Education lies in
respecting the pupil. It is not for you to choose what he shall know, what he shall do" (Education).
The student chooses whether or not they want to be educated, one cannot force knowledge upon a
student. Teachers should encourage students and provide them the tools to learn, not force students
or put them down.
In order to teach successfully teachers must learn about first learn about their students. Teachers
must assess the student's capabilities and interests. Some students are visual learners, while others
learn from hands on activities, or verbal communication. Not all students can learn through
memorization, rather they learn through interest and relation to the topic. "To realize what an
experience, or empirical situation, means, we have to call to mind the sort of situation that presents
itself outside of school" (Democracy and Education). The curriculum should encompass material that
is most useful for a student to learn. It seems that in the majority of schools, students are not given
the flexibility to guide their own learning, but rather follow rigid instructions that destroy the
student's imagination.
Homeschooling is one pathway of education that effectively teachers each student based on their
individual needs. At home there is one student, and one

What Is Good Education Essay
What is a Good Education?
Education literally means the things a person learns by being taught.
So, the definition of a good education would be the things a person learns by being taught well.
But what exactly does that mean? No one has ever told you that, right. To me a good education is
basically achieved when a person has a general to specific knowledge of the things that have
happened in the world, things that could happen in the future of the world, how to communicate
with others, and how to live safely in the world today.
In order to live in this day and age, a person needs to know what has happened to people or places
before their time. This is basically learned in a history class. If the person is well educated in history,

If people have a general understanding of these and other important literary works, they will not feel
uncomfortable if they end up in a discussion about English.
They should also know a little about the famous authors of the past such as
William Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, and Charles
Dickens. To know the names of some famous authors and what they are famous for should be
enough for a person to be able to function in society.
However, knowing a little bit of detail about authors in history would be of great help.
People should also know a little about what could happen in the future. They should know a little
about the ways the government could change, space exploration breakthroughs, who is forming a
peace treaty, as well as if a war could break out. This information is very general and
changing constantly, however, it is very important to know. If a person did not know for instance
that one country has problems with another, a war could break out and they would have no idea
why. This could put a person in an awkward position in society. People do not realize that this kind
of information is important until they are out in the real world. It does not seem so important when
you are in high school, but when you graduate and go out to pursue a career, it becomes important.
Not necessarily because you have to know this to do your job efficiently, but because you need to
know what to say if your boss

What Is Education For You?
What is Education to you? Education means something different to everyone. For one, it might just
mean going to school and learning and passing the tests with good grades. For someone else it might
mean doing something that their parents might not have done. Or for someone else it might just
mean that this is my chance to do something different and for the better of the people in the society.
One thing about education it does not earn the same respect from everyone. For example, here in
the US, people get educated so they are not left behind, that everyone has an equal opportunity to
succeed. But, in the past Kenya, not everyone has the same opportunity; male are treated
differently than females. Only males should receive education because they will deal with the
economy in the future and females shouldn't because they just going to be mothers when they
grow up and just take care of the house. Education is essential for everyone, it is the level of
education that helps people earn respect and recognition in society, both personally and socially.
Education influences the lives of everyone in positive ways and teaches us to tackle problems in
life. Hence the reason, the society and the governance is spending much of their time and money to
ensure that everyone has a proper education. But even with this awareness, many areas of the world
are still unable to receive the proper education, which leaves them behind and turn to the only option
available, crime. In a small town

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Education
Education is undeniably vital and essential for people from all walks of life. Education is the key
to success, and as we all know it, there are too many reason why education is important in our lives
but none on the disadvantages of it because education only brings benefits towards us. According to
Oxford Dictionary, the word 'education' is derived from Latin, Д“ducДЃtiЕЌ in the mid–16th century
and is defined as "the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or
university." The origin of education began as story–telling passed knowledge and now it has taken
up to 3 forms of education which is; formal education, informal education and non–formal education.
Formal education is a planned education system in a...show more content...
Students are often heard whining to their parents about school and finding a thousand and one
excuses not to go to school but as little as we realize, schools actually help build our character and
leads us to our career progression. An educated individual is capable of planning for the future,
choosing the right decisions in life and behaving appropriately. Education is not only a pathway to
our career but also paves the path to disillusionment. It gives us the insight on what is right and
wrong, making clear judgements and shapes our personalities. The nation's growth depends on the
literacy of the people. "Education is much more than an entry to the job market. It has the power to
shape a sustainable future and better world." (Unknown, 2012) With the help of education, one can
easily get an entry of a job while at the same time help develop the nation. Most countries realized
that in this competitive world, education is important for the social progress and economic growth
of a nation. As John F. Kennedy quotes, "our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress
in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource." In simple words, brain beats brawn,
which is used to define a country. A country with no education cannot win over a country with

My Personal Philosophy of Education Essay
Philosophy of Education Education is the process of learning that can take place anywhere and at
any time. I believe that creativity and activity as well as books and lessons are essential to the
learning process. As a teacher, I hope to instill in the children a sense of knowledge and self–worth
that will remain with them throughout their lives. Education is important not only to maintain daily
life, but also to become someone who contributes to society. Without education people have no
chance to impact the lives of others in their own community. I want to give the children I teach a
chance to give back to their community and society. Although ethics and morals are constantly being

Wanting to become a kindergarten teacher, I strongly believe in the value of good elementary
schools. I think the emphasis of the curriculum should be on the four major subjects: language,
math, science, and social studies. The extras, computer, art, music, and physical education, should
be taught as well, but without the strong emphasis. I believe this because I have seen many
students in high schools that cannot recall basic knowledge in the major subjects because either
they were not taught it or it was not emphasized to the extent needed to remember it. In terms of
philosophy, I feel I benefit most from the pragmatic approach to teaching. This approach states that
teachers feel the classroom is a community of learners, not just a teacher standing in front of a
group of students. I believe this is true because it is my opinion that if the teacher is learning and
exploring along with the students, the students are more likely to be involved and interested in
what is being taught. I also believe the strategies of teaching by problem solving and encouraging
democratic procedures are the most profitable in today's society. My beliefs in student involved
activities, emphasis of curriculum, and democratic classroom management are all part of the
pragmatic approach. My plans are to become an early education teacher. Preferably
pre–kindergarten, kindergarten, or first grade teacher. I will always be a kid

Essay on The Future of Education
The Future of Education
As teachers our primary concern should be the students and what type of learning environment will
be best suited to meet their needs. There are many different opinions as top what the most effective
or appropriate curriculum is for the students. I do not believe there is any one philosophy that can
provide the ideal curriculum for each and every student. Just as there are numerous methods of
teaching, there are also numerous ways to learn. It is essential that we keep this in mind as we help
the students achieve their goals and discover their talents. Above all we must encourage the students
to try new things and do what we can to prevent limiting them in any way.

I think that many of the schools today merely try to prepare the students to move on to college and
by doing so exclude the students who are gifted with other abilities that are equally important and
useful in society, even though those talents may not necessarily be something that can be refined
through a traditional four year college.
As a future teacher, I very strongly believe that students need to be shown practical applications of
the concepts they are taught. For myself this is especially notable in mathematical applications. As
teachers we need to not just show how to work through a problem: we need to show why it works
and what it is useful for. Without something to apply the information to math is nothing more than a
stream of numbers and formulas that students memorize for a specific test and then quickly forget.
By demonstrating specific examples of applications the students will be able to retain some of the
information easier and then adapt what they learn to other problems they encounter in the future.
Upon graduation I hope to begin teaching Math at the middle school or high school level.
Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra would be my first choices of classes I would like to teach,
but I feel I would enjoy teaching any of the other forms of math. I would prefer to teach in a rural
area since that is the

Essay on What Is the Purpose of Education?
Getting educated is very important for every person. It goes without saying that each of us has to
have a proper education. We learn how to read, count and write. These are the basic abilities we
acquire and use during our life. Is there any other purpose of education or it is aimed only at giving
us a possibility to communicate our ideas and satisfy basic needs? During centuries, there were
different interpretations of the purpose of education. Many scientists, pedagogues and philosophers
tried to answer the question: what is the purpose of education? Taking into consideration the needs
and tendencies of a modern society, we can assume that the purpose of education is to prepare
students to be self–sufficient citizens capable of solving...show more content...
Our education should be aimed at educating people who love the world they lie in and who are
ready to become peacemakers and healers of the world (Orr 55). A sustainable society "consists"
of citizens, workers, specialists, technicians, etc, who are ready to work in order to build and
support such society. One of the ways to provide such education is to "get outdoor". The skills
and abilities develop in real world and not in artificial situations in class. In this regard, we may
refer to the Plato's "Allegory of the Cave". One should "touch" the real world problems and get
personal experience from it. Shadows in the cave are the retrospectives of the real knowledge. To
acquire the knowledge, we should leave the "cave". We can learn theory separated from practice and
this will not have any result. Instead, we should understand that every individual is a part of the
natural world, thus, education should be based on ecological literacy as "health of our planet" is one
of the most urgent questions of the modern social community.
For many centuries, the principles of the classical education were in the spotlight. The good of the
individual, realizing his/her own potential were the purposes of the learning process. Cultural
development is the aim of the classical education. It stands above everything, including religion.
(Nietzsche, n. p.). Referring to Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" to interpret the classical education in
modern society, we can say that

Educational Assessment Essay
Assessment is the systematic collection, review, and use of information about educational programs
undertaken for the purpose of improving student learning and development (Palomba & Banta,
1999). Educational assessments are carried out to measure the efficiency of the program, the quality
of instruction and progress of a child's learning. The purpose is to determine the growth and
development. There are several kinds of assessment carried out during a student's learning. These
include the placement assessment, formative assessment, and summative assessment. Learners
coming into the kindergarten class are often given a pre test or a placement assessment to evaluate
what the learner may already know or think about content that is to be...show more content...
How much each child has improved over time, gives the educators an opportunity to recognize
what modifications are needed to improve the student's achievement. e.g. if a child knows the
uppercase and lowercase alphabets very well then the teacher can move on to sounds of the
alphabet. On the other hand if the child is struggling to identify the alphabets then the teacher has
to come up with alternate ideas to modify her lesson plans. The school carries out assessment
twice a year. The mid year and end of the year assessment shows that the expectations from the
kindergarteners are slowly raised keeping in mind the consistency of the curriculum and the
objectives. An end of the year assessment clearly shows the child's expected familiarity and
independency in the subject. Objectives for the assessment The assessment is used to identify
the various skill levels of learners. There are four levels of expected growth chosen to meet the
objectives. Each level has a set of criteria and standards linked to learning objectives and a scoring
system to align it. In the above table, being able to identify two rhyming words in 3 out of 5
sentences assesses the success of rhyming in a sentence and gives the learner the highest score of 4.
For a learner who is able to identify 6 rhyming pairs, produce 6 ending sounds gets a score of 3. A

Inclusive Education Essay
What is inclusive education?
Inclusive education is concerned with the education and accommodation of ALL children in society,
regardless of their physical, intellectual, social, or linguistic deficits. Inclusion should also include
children from disadvantaged groups, of all races and cultures as well as the gifted and the disabled
(UNESCO, 2003). Inclusion tries to reduce exclusion within the education system by tackling,
responding to and meeting the different needs of all learners (Booth, 1996). It involves changing the
education system so that it can accommodate the unique styles and way of learning of each learner
and ensure that there is quality education for all through the use of proper resources, suitable
curricula, appropriate...show more content...
Inclusive education also recognises that learning occurs both at home and in the community and
therefore the support of parents, family and the community is vital (Department of Education, 2001).
Truly inclusive schools understand the uniqueness of every child, that all children can learn and that
all children have different gifts, strengths learning styles and needs. These schools then provide the
appropriate means and support through which these needs can be met (UNESO, 2003)
The necessity for making schools and classrooms inclusive in South Africa
Inclusion has become a necessity in South Africa as South Africa has a history of violence and
the education system has always been politicised and used by the ruling class as a way of
marginalising and stigmatising various groups in society (De Lange, 1989). Inequalities in our
society, lack of access to basic services and poverty are prevailing historical factors that place our
children at risk and still lead to severe exclusion of children with barriers to learning (whether it be
economic, social, intellectual, language, socio–economic or physical barriers) (UNESCO, 2005).
Today there are still about two hundred and eighty thousand learners with disabilities or impairments
that are not in any form of education (Department of Education, 2001). Inclusion is therefore
necessary because all learners have a right to an education, to be accepted and given the

My Education
When speaking of the topic of who a person is and their past, a massive part of this includes their
educational background. Isn't this what forms people, their education? Of course, this doesn't always
have to refer to their organized education. Everything that a person learns is something that educates
them; these words being synonymous. Even something like first learning to tie your shoes is a part
of your education. Which method works better for you: loop, swoop, and pull, or bunny ears? I of
course, like any other well educated person, use loop, swoop, and pull; it's just the best way, no bias

actually stayed with through all of high school. When this short stint was finished, I graduated onto
Seward Elementary School, located in the same buildings as the Middle and High Schools, where I
first learned that kissing a girl on the hand in kindergarten at story time wasn't a good idea. In the
Seward Community Schools system, ones learns a lot about the natural world around them, and about
Alaska in general, being as it is one of the worlds greatest natural resources. After first grade, there
was a new building necessary, as the population of Seward, like any other place on earth, was
growing. This new school was where I had a second grade teacher who had actually been in the
Ms. America pageant, whom everyone had a crush on. I started music which I loved every minute
of, as it would become a large part of me. As any other elementary school, this was where I learned
my basic stuff of course: typing, addition, speling, and even crazy things like percentages!
Going into middle school, I always had a taste for math and science, learning quickly all I could.

People in the past did not stress value of receiving a higher education because it was not as

majority of students are concerned about getting a higher education throughout the years.
Nevertheless, some people question the purposes of getting educated, and consider it meaningless.

(Newman, 54). Education gives students a better understanding their own opinions, and judgments;
it creates anxiousness in developing them, a fluency in expressing them, and a power in urging them.
The economy will grow if the necessity of getting a higher education is reinforced. Education is
the foundation of a country's economic growth and the key to rid a nation of poverty. To illustrate,
Japan is a country with no resources, but since it has a good educational system; Japan has the

Essay about The Function of Education
The Function of Education Education is an aspect of socialisation which involves the acquisition
of knowledge and learning of skills. It shapes our beliefs and moral values through a systematic
formal transmission. Education is said be an integral function of society, as it provides a
contributory characteristic which helps to maintain and adapt society and it's values. Before the
1960's, education was taught through a system known as the 'Tripartite' system. This involved all
children at the age of eleven undertaking an exam in order to ascertain individual ability in order to
separate the children into streams of ability and assign them to what was believed to be the most

The Comprehensive was intended to reduce class differences in educational attainment. It allowed
children to mix from all social backgrounds and therefore provided equal opportunity. Although this
system has been highly criticised since it was first introduced there are a number of factors which
imply and suggest that although the comprehensive system is less divisive than the tripartite, it still
does little to engender social equality if anything, serves to reinforce class inequality. According to
the Marxist Sociologists, Bowles and Gintis (Schooling in Capitalist America, 1976), education will
always reinforce and legitimate social inequality. As a consequence of the elite owning the means,
they decide what the curriculum entails and therefore continuously reinforce and reproduce their
class status as the system is designed by themselves for themselves, leaving the working class
powerless. In any industrial capitalist society there is a rigid hierarchy of authority, this is evident
in the workplace, in society and in its values which are instilled in members of society at any early
age – at school. For example in the workplace; Shareholders, Directors, Managers, professionals,
technical staff, white collar workers down to

What is education?
What are the challenges facing those who provide it?
Education is a crucial part of life, it influences the way people think, speak, talk, write and react to
the world around them. However, education is much more than just an influence, it is a part of life
itself. Throughout the past century, education has dramatically called upon change and variation,
with new technology, science, and both ethical and cultural values making way. Hence, education
can really only be defined by its time and place. This means that as educators, we need to continually
update our qualifications and skills to be in equilibrium with the constant changes that are happening
around us, which is a challenge all educators face (Dusseldorp 1998)....show more content...
Moreover, with new fields of work constantly being created, there is a large demand for people with
the right qualifications and skills (Kalantzis 1998). Finding the right people with such skills can be a
hard task, unless educational institutions such as schools, tafes and universities are continually
updating the subjects they teach and their teaching methods (Dusseldorp 1998).
Along with changing careers is technology, the most rapidly developing resource on the planet.
According to Australian Bureau of Statistics, 66% of Australian households have access to at least
one computer at home and over 72% of households have access to mobile phones. Quality Education
Data have also surveyed that just over 90% of school teachers feel "unprepared" to effectively use
technology. This statistic really concretes a point; educators are not keeping up with technology,
and in consequence are slowing down the ability for children to gain experience with technology.
Today we live in a world that solely relies on technology, and not being able to effectively use this
technology can be a real problem. As technology changes more and more, educators will only find it
harder to keep their skills up–to–date unless they are consistent in keeping up with the move.
Education also strives to imitate and 'mirror' the ways society works, through both structure and
organisation (McBurney–Fry 2002). It slowly prepares children to face the reality of adult life where

I am not saying becoming a lawyer or a business person is wrong or inimical. What I am saying is
being a artist or philosopher is just as advantageous. In fact art and philosophy should be made
standard issue in schools. We all need to know how to think for ourselves. This is not an easy thing
to accomplish, we would need more money for schools in order to pay for teachers and materials.
This would not completely solve the problem however.
We must change the way we think and take control of ourselves. It is essential that we not be lead

people just because they belong to a political party that we belong to. Instead we must be
independent in our thoughts. Most importantly education should be a tool not a crutch.
Education is defined in many ways, however, they all mean the same thing.
To be formed into the mold of a productive worker. What does this do for the world? Nothing, it
creates another mindless drone to carry out the work of its master. The people in power do not

The Purpose of Education Essay
Purpose of Education
In almost every culture and in all parts of the world, getting an education is valuable to a person's
future. But what is it that makes education so valuable? What is the purpose of an education starting
from the early stages of a child's development into adolescents, and from adolescents into adulthood?
There are many different reasons why a K–12 education is important. Although Kindergarten seems
like a place where kids color all day and have recess, there is actually a very intense learning
process in effect. Not only are those children learning how to socialize with other children of their
same age group, but they are also being taught kindliness, discipline, how to respect there...show

The first eight years of a child's education is where he learns the basics of everything. This is where
a child learns values, how to read and analyze material, how to think critically when solving math
problems, use different strategies, take timed tests, write basic five paragraph essays, and so on.
Without these first eight years of education which carry a child into his or adolescent phase, a child
will not be able to reach his full mental development. As a child grows, his intellect and ability to
reason and make educated decisions should reach higher levels.
Once a child graduates from elementary school and goes on to high school, he or she is already
molded into the person he or she will be for the rest of his or her life. Sure all kids become more
mature within those four years, but their values are still the same, and in some cases even stronger.
In most circumstances, a child will use what they learned in the past to make decisions inhe future.
High school, however, is important for other reasons as well. High school is the very last step
before a student can enter the realm of higher education. Therefore, high school is essentially what
prepares a student to go on to bigger and better things. High school is where

Philosophy Of Education
What is the goal or the purpose of education? What is education for?
My definition of education would be to learn or to gain knowledge of something
through the teaching of others or through ones self. One of the definitions from
the Webster's dictionary states that education is the activities of educating or
instructing or teaching, activities that impart knowledge or skill. Both
definitions of education appeal me the most important two words that deals with education are teach

Assessment by definition is formal attempts to determine students' knowledge, skills, and
attitudes students must attain in order to master a subject matter. Teacher's should assess or
measure students capability to grasp a more precise concept or knowledge of what a student is
capable of doing. It should be measured not only by grasping of concept but also the time is takes
a student to grasp full knowledge. Learning should be evaluated on how well a student shows that
he or she attained a certain subject. After seeing a students assessment whether it be good or bad a
teacher should convey it to the student's parents because if it's a situation that the child might need
additional help the parents would now know that they would have to get the help so to better help
their child. How will I teach? Being in many classrooms and seeing many teaching methods both
good and bad, answering that question is very easy. I will teach knowledge and skills to my
students the best way I can demonstratively project my subjects so to help better my students future.
I will apply what I know in real life settings to improve my students livelihood. In projecting tutoring,
I will would make well rounded and conscientious foundation decision's about teaching so my
students can achieve to the best of their ability.

a good education and to live a happy life. Education allows us to gain knowledge to see the world
and challenge the obstacles and difficulties of what life brings. It permits us access to anything we
want and allows us to see the world from all aspects of life. We perceive the world from where we
stand in society. Samoan students tend to take that mentality with them when they're given the
opportunity to move on to higher education. Their attitude towards college is important and they
need to be prepared to take full responsibilities of being fresh college students in order to fulfil and
achieve their goals and dreams.
Problem and how it is manifested in society.
Despite the fact that student's desire is to gain a good education, some students fail their first year
of college because they are not ready to pursue college life.
There are many contributing factors why first year college students fail and drop out of college or

What Is Education Essay

  • 1. What Is Education? What Does It Mean? Essay What is education? What does it mean to be an educated individual? People go to liberal education institution all the time, but what is liberal education? How does liberal education affect us in the long run. Liberal education is such an important aspect that all people should have. All the different people in this world need different ways to learn. Pink talks about the ideas of Mastery and Flow in his book Drive. Mastery is what urges you to get better and better in whatever subject you choose. Mastery begins with Flow, yet Flow never guarantees mastery. Flow is the feeling you have when you find something that you want to master. Pink talks about how Mastery and Flow "You and I each might reach flow tomorrow morning–but neither one of us will achieve mastery overnight."(Pink 120) Nations, depending on their education system, are either more ahead academically or creatively. In the United States, we are more like to be educated in a liberal way. This is because we must be exposed to many different subject of all fields. These include; Business, Welding, the arts, History, and of course Math and science, alongside with many other subjects. China and many other asian countries have a two year advantage above the United States because they are actually taught and extra two years more than the US and others with similar education systems. Asian countries also focus mostly on the aspects of math and science subjects, and become proficient in those. So, who actually has Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Problems with Education Essay Problems with Education Education is a very important aspect of the lives of all people all over the world. What we learn, not just in the classroom, shapes who we are. We take our education everywhere we go. We use it when talking to our buddies about sports or music, we use it while solving a math problem, we use our education while debating with our family whether or not we should watch TV or go to the movies. Our education is the foundation of who we are, since every decision we make and every thought we think is dependent on what we know. Imagine how different the world would be if everyone craved learning to such a degree that at lunch tables all over the world the topic of conversation isn't who likes who, or how drunk...show more content... School is also coercive, disciplinary and taught by many unmotivated teachers, so school being mandatory is just icing on the cake. Teachers and the school system completely control the way things are run and leave little room for students to do things their way. Teachers control what they teach, how to teach, how to discipline, what is assigned, etc. Students need to have more of a say in the way things are run since they are the majority. More freedom in decisions would create a more comfortable environment and students would thus have an easier time learning. There is also stress on a lack of communication since school is coercive. It is hard to reach a person if one doesn?t have a relationship with that person, and one way to deal with this is through addressing the students to hear their ideas and views on what direction should be taken. School is very similar to an oligarchy where the faculty is the monarch and students are the populous. It should be more of a democracy where all the students have a say in what happens, but how often is there a vote as to class and school decisions? The current curriculum is one in which a teacher says ?jump? and a student responds with ?how high.? And if a student responds with anything different, than they are reprimanded or punished. Three are many aspects of school that are unhealthy to a students life that many teachers don?t see and so these Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Ideal Education Model Essay Education is one of the most important things for a society to prosper and be safe which forms the character and intelligence of the individuals around the world. Education makes one able to understand what is happening in the world logically and clearly. Education enables individuals to put their potential to use and make a difference in the future. It is essential for individuals to be educated in a way that they will expand their knowledge vastly. An ideal educational model is very difficult to achieve, and is often argued over by people in society. Every person in the world is unique in their own way, having their own strengths and weaknesses. Everyone has a learning style that is unique to them, developed over time. It is absurd...show more content... It is also very important to maintain complete respect for the student. No matter what skill level a student has they should be treated equally to all other students. "The secret of Education lies in respecting the pupil. It is not for you to choose what he shall know, what he shall do" (Education). The student chooses whether or not they want to be educated, one cannot force knowledge upon a student. Teachers should encourage students and provide them the tools to learn, not force students or put them down. In order to teach successfully teachers must learn about first learn about their students. Teachers must assess the student's capabilities and interests. Some students are visual learners, while others learn from hands on activities, or verbal communication. Not all students can learn through memorization, rather they learn through interest and relation to the topic. "To realize what an experience, or empirical situation, means, we have to call to mind the sort of situation that presents itself outside of school" (Democracy and Education). The curriculum should encompass material that is most useful for a student to learn. It seems that in the majority of schools, students are not given the flexibility to guide their own learning, but rather follow rigid instructions that destroy the student's imagination. Homeschooling is one pathway of education that effectively teachers each student based on their individual needs. At home there is one student, and one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. What Is Good Education Essay What is a Good Education? Education literally means the things a person learns by being taught. So, the definition of a good education would be the things a person learns by being taught well. But what exactly does that mean? No one has ever told you that, right. To me a good education is basically achieved when a person has a general to specific knowledge of the things that have happened in the world, things that could happen in the future of the world, how to communicate with others, and how to live safely in the world today. In order to live in this day and age, a person needs to know what has happened to people or places before their time. This is basically learned in a history class. If the person is well educated in history, ...show more content... If people have a general understanding of these and other important literary works, they will not feel uncomfortable if they end up in a discussion about English. They should also know a little about the famous authors of the past such as William Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, and Charles Dickens. To know the names of some famous authors and what they are famous for should be enough for a person to be able to function in society. However, knowing a little bit of detail about authors in history would be of great help. People should also know a little about what could happen in the future. They should know a little about the ways the government could change, space exploration breakthroughs, who is forming a peace treaty, as well as if a war could break out. This information is very general and changing constantly, however, it is very important to know. If a person did not know for instance that one country has problems with another, a war could break out and they would have no idea why. This could put a person in an awkward position in society. People do not realize that this kind of information is important until they are out in the real world. It does not seem so important when you are in high school, but when you graduate and go out to pursue a career, it becomes important. Not necessarily because you have to know this to do your job efficiently, but because you need to know what to say if your boss Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. What Is Education For You? What is Education to you? Education means something different to everyone. For one, it might just mean going to school and learning and passing the tests with good grades. For someone else it might mean doing something that their parents might not have done. Or for someone else it might just mean that this is my chance to do something different and for the better of the people in the society. One thing about education it does not earn the same respect from everyone. For example, here in the US, people get educated so they are not left behind, that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. But, in the past Kenya, not everyone has the same opportunity; male are treated differently than females. Only males should receive education because they will deal with the economy in the future and females shouldn't because they just going to be mothers when they grow up and just take care of the house. Education is essential for everyone, it is the level of education that helps people earn respect and recognition in society, both personally and socially. Education influences the lives of everyone in positive ways and teaches us to tackle problems in life. Hence the reason, the society and the governance is spending much of their time and money to ensure that everyone has a proper education. But even with this awareness, many areas of the world are still unable to receive the proper education, which leaves them behind and turn to the only option available, crime. • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Education Education is undeniably vital and essential for people from all walks of life. Education is the key to success, and as we all know it, there are too many reason why education is important in our lives but none on the disadvantages of it because education only brings benefits towards us. According to Oxford Dictionary, the word 'education' is derived from Latin, Д“ducДЃtiЕЌ in the mid–16th century and is defined as "the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university." The origin of education began as story–telling passed knowledge and now it has taken up to 3 forms of education which is; formal education, informal education and non–formal education. Formal education is a planned education system in a...show more content... Students are often heard whining to their parents about school and finding a thousand and one excuses not to go to school but as little as we realize, schools actually help build our character and leads us to our career progression. An educated individual is capable of planning for the future, choosing the right decisions in life and behaving appropriately. Education is not only a pathway to our career but also paves the path to disillusionment. It gives us the insight on what is right and wrong, making clear judgements and shapes our personalities. The nation's growth depends on the literacy of the people. "Education is much more than an entry to the job market. It has the power to shape a sustainable future and better world." (Unknown, 2012) With the help of education, one can easily get an entry of a job while at the same time help develop the nation. Most countries realized that in this competitive world, education is important for the social progress and economic growth of a nation. As John F. Kennedy quotes, "our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource." In simple words, brain beats brawn, which is used to define a country. A country with no education cannot win over a country with enhanced technology and strategic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. My Personal Philosophy of Education Essay Philosophy of Education Education is the process of learning that can take place anywhere and at any time. I believe that creativity and activity as well as books and lessons are essential to the learning process. As a teacher, I hope to instill in the children a sense of knowledge and self–worth that will remain with them throughout their lives. Education is important not only to maintain daily life, but also to become someone who contributes to society. Without education people have no chance to impact the lives of others in their own community. I want to give the children I teach a chance to give back to their community and society. Although ethics and morals are constantly being ...show more content... Wanting to become a kindergarten teacher, I strongly believe in the value of good elementary schools. I think the emphasis of the curriculum should be on the four major subjects: language, math, science, and social studies. The extras, computer, art, music, and physical education, should be taught as well, but without the strong emphasis. I believe this because I have seen many students in high schools that cannot recall basic knowledge in the major subjects because either they were not taught it or it was not emphasized to the extent needed to remember it. In terms of philosophy, I feel I benefit most from the pragmatic approach to teaching. This approach states that teachers feel the classroom is a community of learners, not just a teacher standing in front of a group of students. I believe this is true because it is my opinion that if the teacher is learning and exploring along with the students, the students are more likely to be involved and interested in what is being taught. I also believe the strategies of teaching by problem solving and encouraging democratic procedures are the most profitable in today's society. My beliefs in student involved activities, emphasis of curriculum, and democratic classroom management are all part of the pragmatic approach. My plans are to become an early education teacher. Preferably pre–kindergarten, kindergarten, or first grade teacher. I will always be a kid Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay on The Future of Education The Future of Education As teachers our primary concern should be the students and what type of learning environment will be best suited to meet their needs. There are many different opinions as top what the most effective or appropriate curriculum is for the students. I do not believe there is any one philosophy that can provide the ideal curriculum for each and every student. Just as there are numerous methods of teaching, there are also numerous ways to learn. It is essential that we keep this in mind as we help the students achieve their goals and discover their talents. Above all we must encourage the students to try new things and do what we can to prevent limiting them in any way. I do not feel that I...show more content... I think that many of the schools today merely try to prepare the students to move on to college and by doing so exclude the students who are gifted with other abilities that are equally important and useful in society, even though those talents may not necessarily be something that can be refined through a traditional four year college. As a future teacher, I very strongly believe that students need to be shown practical applications of the concepts they are taught. For myself this is especially notable in mathematical applications. As teachers we need to not just show how to work through a problem: we need to show why it works and what it is useful for. Without something to apply the information to math is nothing more than a stream of numbers and formulas that students memorize for a specific test and then quickly forget. By demonstrating specific examples of applications the students will be able to retain some of the information easier and then adapt what they learn to other problems they encounter in the future. Upon graduation I hope to begin teaching Math at the middle school or high school level. Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra would be my first choices of classes I would like to teach, but I feel I would enjoy teaching any of the other forms of math. I would prefer to teach in a rural area since that is the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We learn how to read, count and write. These are the basic abilities we acquire and use during our life. Is there any other purpose of education or it is aimed only at giving us a possibility to communicate our ideas and satisfy basic needs? During centuries, there were different interpretations of the purpose of education. Many scientists, pedagogues and philosophers tried to answer the question: what is the purpose of education? Our education should be aimed at educating people who love the world they lie in and who are ready to become peacemakers and healers of the world (Orr 55). A sustainable society "consists" of citizens, workers, specialists, technicians, etc, who are ready to work in order to build and support such society. One of the ways to provide such education is to "get outdoor". The skills and abilities develop in real world and not in artificial situations in class. In this regard, we may refer to the Plato's "Allegory of the Cave". One should "touch" the real world problems and get personal experience from it. Shadows in the cave are the retrospectives of the real knowledge. To acquire the knowledge, we should leave the "cave". We can learn theory separated from practice and this will not have any result. Instead, we should understand that every individual is a part of the natural world, thus, education should be based on ecological literacy as "health of our planet" is one of the most urgent questions of the modern social community. For many centuries, the principles of the classical education were in the spotlight. The good of the individual, realizing his/her own potential were the purposes of the learning process. Cultural development is the aim of the classical education. It stands above everything, including religion. (Nietzsche, n. p.). Referring to Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" to interpret the classical education in modern society, we can say that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Educational Assessment Essay Assessment is the systematic collection, review, and use of information about educational programs undertaken for the purpose of improving student learning and development (Palomba & Banta, 1999). Educational assessments are carried out to measure the efficiency of the program, the quality of instruction and progress of a child's learning. The purpose is to determine the growth and development. There are several kinds of assessment carried out during a student's learning. These include the placement assessment, formative assessment, and summative assessment. Learners coming into the kindergarten class are often given a pre test or a placement assessment to evaluate what the learner may already know or think about content that is to be...show more content... How much each child has improved over time, gives the educators an opportunity to recognize what modifications are needed to improve the student's achievement. e.g. if a child knows the uppercase and lowercase alphabets very well then the teacher can move on to sounds of the alphabet. On the other hand if the child is struggling to identify the alphabets then the teacher has to come up with alternate ideas to modify her lesson plans. The school carries out assessment twice a year. The mid year and end of the year assessment shows that the expectations from the kindergarteners are slowly raised keeping in mind the consistency of the curriculum and the objectives. An end of the year assessment clearly shows the child's expected familiarity and independency in the subject. Objectives for the assessment The assessment is used to identify the various skill levels of learners. There are four levels of expected growth chosen to meet the objectives. Each level has a set of criteria and standards linked to learning objectives and a scoring system to align it. In the above table, being able to identify two rhyming words in 3 out of 5 sentences assesses the success of rhyming in a sentence and gives the learner the highest score of 4. For a learner who is able to identify 6 rhyming pairs, produce 6 ending sounds gets a score of 3. A learner who is able to recognize 6 rhyming pairs is given a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Inclusive Education Essay What is inclusive education? Inclusive education is concerned with the education and accommodation of ALL children in society, regardless of their physical, intellectual, social, or linguistic deficits. Inclusion should also include children from disadvantaged groups, of all races and cultures as well as the gifted and the disabled (UNESCO, 2003). Inclusion tries to reduce exclusion within the education system by tackling, responding to and meeting the different needs of all learners (Booth, 1996). It involves changing the education system so that it can accommodate the unique styles and way of learning of each learner and ensure that there is quality education for all through the use of proper resources, suitable curricula, appropriate...show more content... Inclusive education also recognises that learning occurs both at home and in the community and therefore the support of parents, family and the community is vital (Department of Education, 2001). Truly inclusive schools understand the uniqueness of every child, that all children can learn and that all children have different gifts, strengths learning styles and needs. These schools then provide the appropriate means and support through which these needs can be met (UNESO, 2003) The necessity for making schools and classrooms inclusive in South Africa Inclusion has become a necessity in South Africa as South Africa has a history of violence and the education system has always been politicised and used by the ruling class as a way of marginalising and stigmatising various groups in society (De Lange, 1989). Inequalities in our society, lack of access to basic services and poverty are prevailing historical factors that place our children at risk and still lead to severe exclusion of children with barriers to learning (whether it be economic, social, intellectual, language, socio–economic or physical barriers) (UNESCO, 2005). Today there are still about two hundred and eighty thousand learners with disabilities or impairments that are not in any form of education (Department of Education, 2001). Inclusion is therefore necessary because all learners have a right to an education, to be accepted and given the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. My Education Essay My Education When speaking of the topic of who a person is and their past, a massive part of this includes their educational background. Isn't this what forms people, their education? Of course, this doesn't always have to refer to their organized education. Everything that a person learns is something that educates them; these words being synonymous. Even something like first learning to tie your shoes is a part of your education. Which method works better for you: loop, swoop, and pull, or bunny ears? I of course, like any other well educated person, use loop, swoop, and pull; it's just the best way, no bias has ever developed there. I started out as a twinkle in my father's eye in the fall of 1982, and then on that fateful...show more content... Starting in Nana's Nuggets preschool, which had a lot of interactive learning, I began my first venture into organized education. This was a very warm environment, same as in my home, where caring and working with others was very important. I made a lot of friends in this school that I actually stayed with through all of high school. When this short stint was finished, I graduated onto Seward Elementary School, located in the same buildings as the Middle and High Schools, where I first learned that kissing a girl on the hand in kindergarten at story time wasn't a good idea. In the Seward Community Schools system, ones learns a lot about the natural world around them, and about Alaska in general, being as it is one of the worlds greatest natural resources. After first grade, there was a new building necessary, as the population of Seward, like any other place on earth, was growing. This new school was where I had a second grade teacher who had actually been in the Ms. America pageant, whom everyone had a crush on. I started music which I loved every minute of, as it would become a large part of me. As any other elementary school, this was where I learned my basic stuff of course: typing, addition, speling, and even crazy things like percentages! Going into middle school, I always had a taste for math and science, learning quickly all I could. Other things Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Purpose of Higher Education Essay People in the past did not stress value of receiving a higher education because it was not as indispensable as it is today. Now, people perceive others not only by their appearances, but by their accomplishments. Employers always hire people with the most education and experience. The majority of students are concerned about getting a higher education throughout the years. Nevertheless, some people question the purposes of getting educated, and consider it meaningless. The concept of education has a significant meaning. It enables one to take control of knowledge and apply it. It is education what prepares the mind to comprehend and learn important ideas. "It is the education which gives a man a clear conscious view of his own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, and a force in urging them" (Newman, 54). Education gives students a better understanding their own opinions, and judgments; it creates anxiousness in developing them, a fluency in expressing them, and a power in urging them. The economy will grow if the necessity of getting a higher education is reinforced. Education is the foundation of a country's economic growth and the key to rid a nation of poverty. To illustrate, Japan is a country with no resources, but since it has a good educational system; Japan has the second richest economy worldwide. On the other hand, Nigeria is a country that is rich in resources, but low in education; as a result, the majority of people there are poor. A higher education creates a quality workforce,; besides it will promote economic stability by growing and training students for success. Such training will capacitate hard working people, which will do well to The United States economy. • 14. Essay about The Function of Education The Function of Education Education is an aspect of socialisation which involves the acquisition of knowledge and learning of skills. It shapes our beliefs and moral values through a systematic formal transmission. Education is said be an integral function of society, as it provides a contributory characteristic which helps to maintain and adapt society and it's values. Before the 1960's, education was taught through a system known as the 'Tripartite' system. This involved all children at the age of eleven undertaking an exam in order to ascertain individual ability in order to separate the children into streams of ability and assign them to what was believed to be the most appropriate...show more content... The Comprehensive was intended to reduce class differences in educational attainment. It allowed children to mix from all social backgrounds and therefore provided equal opportunity. Although this system has been highly criticised since it was first introduced there are a number of factors which imply and suggest that although the comprehensive system is less divisive than the tripartite, it still does little to engender social equality if anything, serves to reinforce class inequality. According to the Marxist Sociologists, Bowles and Gintis (Schooling in Capitalist America, 1976), education will always reinforce and legitimate social inequality. As a consequence of the elite owning the means, they decide what the curriculum entails and therefore continuously reinforce and reproduce their class status as the system is designed by themselves for themselves, leaving the working class powerless. In any industrial capitalist society there is a rigid hierarchy of authority, this is evident in the workplace, in society and in its values which are instilled in members of society at any early age – at school. For example in the workplace; Shareholders, Directors, Managers, professionals, technical staff, white collar workers down to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. what is education Essay What is education? What are the challenges facing those who provide it? Education is a crucial part of life, it influences the way people think, speak, talk, write and react to the world around them. However, education is much more than just an influence, it is a part of life itself. Throughout the past century, education has dramatically called upon change and variation, with new technology, science, and both ethical and cultural values making way. Hence, education can really only be defined by its time and place. This means that as educators, we need to continually update our qualifications and skills to be in equilibrium with the constant changes that are happening around us, which is a challenge all educators face (Dusseldorp 1998)....show more content... Moreover, with new fields of work constantly being created, there is a large demand for people with the right qualifications and skills (Kalantzis 1998). Finding the right people with such skills can be a hard task, unless educational institutions such as schools, tafes and universities are continually updating the subjects they teach and their teaching methods (Dusseldorp 1998). Along with changing careers is technology, the most rapidly developing resource on the planet. According to Australian Bureau of Statistics, 66% of Australian households have access to at least one computer at home and over 72% of households have access to mobile phones. Quality Education Data have also surveyed that just over 90% of school teachers feel "unprepared" to effectively use technology. This statistic really concretes a point; educators are not keeping up with technology, and in consequence are slowing down the ability for children to gain experience with technology. Today we live in a world that solely relies on technology, and not being able to effectively use this technology can be a real problem. As technology changes more and more, educators will only find it harder to keep their skills up–to–date unless they are consistent in keeping up with the move. Education also strives to imitate and 'mirror' the ways society works, through both structure and organisation (McBurney–Fry 2002). It slowly prepares children to face the reality of adult life where there will be winners and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The knowledge or skill obtained or developed by a learning process. 3. A program of instruction of a specified kind or level. 4. The field of study that is concerned with the pedagogy of teaching and learning, according to the American Heritage dictionary. Its etymology comes from the Latin word "educatio which means to bring up"1 But what does that tell us. It says to me that education is training not learning. I am not saying becoming a lawyer or a business person is wrong or inimical. What I am saying is being a artist or philosopher is just as advantageous. In fact art and philosophy should be made standard issue in schools. We all need to know how to think for ourselves. This is not an easy thing to accomplish, we would need more money for schools in order to pay for teachers and materials. This would not completely solve the problem however. We must change the way we think and take control of ourselves. It is essential that we not be lead blindly. It is time that we hold people accountable for their actions. No longer are we be to lead by people just because they belong to a political party that we belong to. Instead we must be independent in our thoughts. Most importantly education should be a tool not a crutch. Education is defined in many ways, however, they all mean the same thing. To be formed into the mold of a productive worker. What does this do for the world? Nothing, it creates another mindless drone to carry out the work of its master. The people in power do not want this to change because it serves their purposes. We must change or over time we will lose our ability to think for ourselves. Then we are truly "dammed" to subservience. What type of life could that ever be? But what is it that makes education so valuable? What is the purpose of an education starting from the early stages of a child's development into adolescents, and from adolescents into adulthood? There are many different reasons why a K–12 education is important. Although Kindergarten seems like a place where kids color all day and have recess, there is actually a very intense learning process in effect. Not only are those children learning how to socialize with other children of their same age group, but they are also being taught kindliness, discipline, how to respect there...show more content... She yelled at me in front of the class which really embarrassed me, however, I learned that stealing was wrong; and from that day on, I never stole anything again. The first eight years of a child's education is where he learns the basics of everything. This is where a child learns values, how to read and analyze material, how to think critically when solving math problems, use different strategies, take timed tests, write basic five paragraph essays, and so on. Without these first eight years of education which carry a child into his or adolescent phase, a child will not be able to reach his full mental development. As a child grows, his intellect and ability to reason and make educated decisions should reach higher levels. Once a child graduates from elementary school and goes on to high school, he or she is already molded into the person he or she will be for the rest of his or her life. Sure all kids become more mature within those four years, but their values are still the same, and in some cases even stronger. In most circumstances, a child will use what they learned in the past to make decisions inhe future. High school, however, is important for other reasons as well. High school is the very last step before a student can enter the realm of higher education. Therefore, high school is essentially what prepares a student to go on to bigger and better things. My definition of education would be to learn or to gain knowledge of something through the teaching of others or through ones self. Assessment by definition is formal attempts to determine students' knowledge, skills, and attitudes students must attain in order to master a subject matter. Teacher's should assess or measure students capability to grasp a more precise concept or knowledge of what a student is capable of doing. It should be measured not only by grasping of concept but also the time is takes a student to grasp full knowledge. Learning should be evaluated on how well a student shows that he or she attained a certain subject. After seeing a students assessment whether it be good or bad a teacher should convey it to the student's parents because if it's a situation that the child might need additional help the parents would now know that they would have to get the help so to better help their child. How will I teach? Being in many classrooms and seeing many teaching methods both good and bad, answering that question is very easy. I will teach knowledge and skills to my students the best way I can demonstratively project my subjects so to help better my students future. I will apply what I know in real life settings to improve my students livelihood. In projecting tutoring, I will would make well rounded and conscientious foundation decision's about teaching so my students can achieve to the best of their ability.
