2. Do we wonder reasons why graduates are unemployed?
The increasing unemployment rate among the graduates in Malaysia is a worrying trend. For
many years, the issue cropped up again and again, made the news headlines, and even hit the
parliament.
The days have passed when a degree scroll can become your automatic passport to
employment. Higher education is no longer a symbol of career success. This may sound painful
for graduates but let’s face it. It is reality, no matter how harsh it may appear.
In July 2006, The Sun newspaper reported that the unemployment rate of public universities has
reached a staggering 70%, whereas the private institutions recorded 26% and foreign graduates
34%. Out of the 70%, the highest unemployment was contributed by the following statistics:
Universiti Teknologi MARA, UiTM – 3,278 (16.2%)
Universiti Utara Malaysia, UUM – 1,532 (7.6%)
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, UTM – 1,147 (5.7%)
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, UKM – 971 (4.8%)
Universiti Putra Malaysia, UPM – 919 (4.5%)
There are some factors that contribute to reasons why graduates are unemployed:

Choosy Employers
3. Economy
Changing of the economic structure and landscape is a probable cause the rise in the
unemployment expecially for a graduate.
Services sector in economy requires people who do not only possess the right technical
knowledge, but also those who possess the right softskills
In Economy ,they always want to getting graduates with that kind of quality expecially
who can speak moderate English.
The changing of economy in hire an employment with many skill will make a rise of
unemployment of fresh graduate
Fresh graduate that involve in a new situation which is a real employment must be
training to increase their skill.
Quality Of Education
Every year ,our country produce more brialliant student and fresh graduate.
In education not all institution provide to study in practical training. It’s seem the country
is blessed with institution highly capable to produce low quality,academic achievers.
Quality in employment is very important for a fresh graduate to involve in a real world as
a employer.
The reason ,why fresh graduate are unemployment is low quality of education can cause
many of them loss their skills.
Choosy Job Seekers
Candidate are expecting job offer to come with a package – a good pay, convenient
working location, no shift, no work beyond 6pm and so on, with everything handed in a
silver platter.
When we choosy the job ,we must take part on how we arrive, what time should we in,
which part of work we will work, and how much we get for a payment.
But for a fresh graduate, do not to choose your suitable work place.
Nowaday, when searching for a work its not about a suitable place but its about a
suitable work that can improve your skill and may make your practice all about your
lesson.
Lack Of Guidance
Many fresh graduate are searching for a work. But many of them just wait for a job
without searching. It’s will make they loss their skill.
Lack of guidance will make fresh graduate are unemployment. It’s is because the longer
time to searching work in employment will make they loss their skill.
Waiting for a letter from employer to accept them as a worker .
Lack of guidance because they not practice their lesson in education as a duty in work.
Some time they get the job that was not related to their skill.
4. Choosy Employers
In employment, sometime the employer will not accept the fresh graduate as employee.
High cost will need while accept the fresh graduate as a worker.
It is because they need to be training before working as a employee to thye company.
So, many of the employer just accept the fresh graduate that have experience in working
before.
