8. The past should not be followed after and the future not desired; what is past is dead and gone and the future is yet to come. Majhima Nikaya

9. Good it is to train the mind so swiftly moving, grasping whatever. Good it is to have a well-trained mind for a well-trained mind brings ease. Dhammapada 35

10. By evil, is one defiled; by avoiding evil, is one cleansed. Purity and impurity are one’s own doing: no one purifies another. Dhammapada 165

11. “ Impermanent are all phenomena.” When one perceives this with true insight, then one becomes detached from stress: this is the path of purity. Dhammapada 277

12. Live without covetous greed, fill your mind with benevolence. Be mindful and one-pointed, inwardly stable and concentrated. Anguttara Nikaya

13. From craving arises grief, from craving arises fear. For one who is free of craving there is no grief. So how fear? Dhammapada 215

14. Of all the fragrances – sandal, tagara, blue lotus and jasmine – the frangrance of virtue is the sweetest. Dhammapada 55

15. How ugly is the angry man? His sleep is without peace. Despite his wealth he is poor; filled with anger he wounds by speech and deed. Anguttara Nikaya

16. According to the seed that is sown, so is the fruit you reap therefrom. The doer of good gathers good, The doer of evil, evil. Samyutta Nikaya

17. Ever grows the glory of him who is energetic, mindful and pure in conduct, discerning and self-controlled, righteous and heedful. Dhammapada 24

18. Do not be attached to one view and look down upon the views of others as inferior. This the wise man calls a mental hindrance. Sutta Nipata

19. Beings fall not to unhappy states through loss of relatives, wealth, or health. Beings fall to unhappy states through loss of virtue and right view. Digha Nikaya
