This document analyzes the socioeconomic competitiveness of Nigeria's South South region. It provides statistics on population, GDP, unemployment, agricultural production, natural resources and internal generated revenue for each of the 6 states in the region - Rivers, Delta, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Cross River. It also evaluates the business environment and competitiveness of each state based on ease of starting a business, dealing with contracts, registering property and enforcing contracts according to the World Bank's Doing Business report.
10. Key Socio-Economic Stats on the SS
• According to the World Bank, the six producing states in the South South geopolitical zone
and their adjacent Offshore Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Edo states
accounted for 91.5 percent of the gross oil production population. ( The Management of Oil

• The South South region encompasses 78 of the 159 oil fields (44%)
• Total Population is 17,810,715.00 about 10% of Nigeria’s Total Population
