Challenges
• Fragmented sector with many small enterprises
• Poor infrastructure
• High facilitation payment rate
• Old equipment
• Low adoption of technology
• Fierce competition from big shipping companies like Maersk
Group (Denmark), Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC)
(Switzerland), CMA CGM Group (France) and Hapag-Lloyd

Solutions
• Improve transparency in services supply and unit price. In particular, the
industry has to improve the service quality and introduce the most
reasonable transport price.
• In the long term, take advantage of the openness of the Vietnam’s
market access commitments to foreign participation to modernize the
fleet and develop port infrastructure to increase the ports’ efficiency.
• Invest in technology across different parts of the supply chain – take
advantage of the Industrial Revolution 4.0
• Streamlined Government regulations are important!
