• Hello, I’m very good thanks.
• So, your new album drops next week, how are you feeling about it?
• Pretty positive, I love it and I’m sure my fans will too.
• Any favourites you have from the album?
• Its hard to pick, in my opinion every song is amazing, plus they’re all my creations, choosing a favourite
would be like choosing a favourite out of my kids!
• A lot of work has been put into this upcoming album, 5 years in total put into it, is it hard putting so much
effort and time into one piece of work?
• Of course, especially when you don’t know if your fans are going to like it or not. But I really feel myself
when I’m in the studio so to me it doesn’t really feel like a job, but a way of life.
• You’re so passionate about music, Does this help when creating your own?
• Definitely, I have fun in the studio making beats and coming up with lyrics, it really doesn’t feel like a job to
me at all.
• As well as your new album, you are also going on tour starting next week, Are you Excited?
• Of course! I love being on tour, meeting my fans around the world
• What’s your favourite place to go on tour?
• London, it’s the place I grew up and the atmosphere you get there is like none other. But I do love going to
places like New York and seeing that I have such big support in the US as well as England
• Any necessities you need on tour?
• I wouldn’t say I have any material necessities, but I definitely need my friends with me, we always have a
good time touring the world, and dancing on stage together.
• What everyone wants to know, who is going on tour with you?
• Well I can’t release any information yet, but I can say there’s going to be some surprise appearances from
big artists.

House Style - ANTI
For this magazine I am going to use red as the main
colour, with black and white as the secondary and
tertiary colours. I have chosen this as red is a bold
colour, therefore will stand out on the shelf so will
be able to captivate a passing by audience.
I am going to keep the fonts I use simple and very
bold, this is so it can be easily read for afar, and so
entice people in to read it closer, and buy the
magazine.
House Style - Major
For this magazine I am going to use blue as the main
colour, with black and white as the secondary and tertiary
colours. I have chosen this as blue is a bold colour,
therefore will stand out on the shelf, also as not many
magazines use a bold blue as the main colour, this means
my magazine will be recognisable when on the shelf
amongst other magazine.

I have decided to go with the first graphic layout
for the front cover. This is because it looks most
like my magazine of inspiration, so I can make
my magazine look very similar to my inspiration.
Front Cover Step by Step Guide
1. Set up a canvas, A4 size as this is the size the magazine will need to be. Then you need to set up ruler lines to
create a bleed, this means when the magazine is printed nothing important will get cut.
2. Start with the background, I chose to do a grey scale gradient. I did this by using the gradient tool, this is easy to
use you just select it and drag a line where you want the gradient to be.
3. Then I made the barcode, this was easy to do, I just created a base for it then went to file, then place and chose
a file I had which was a picture of a barcode. I placed this on the base and then used the text tool to write the
price and issue date alongside the barcode.
4. Next I created the masthead, I did this by creating a large red rectangle using the rectangle tool. Then I used the
text tool to write the name of my magazine onto it. To add more detail I went onto blending options to add a
drop shadow to the text which I made black to stand out against the red background.
5. Then I added the main image, I did this by going to file, then place and chose the image wanted. I then resized
it to fit the magazine and slightly overlap the masthead, I didn’t want the image to be warped so I held shift
whenever I was resizing it.
6. Next I added the main headline. This step is very simple, I just used the text tool to create text and resized it to
the way I wanted it.
7. For the next step, I added the other headlines, I did this by typing all the artists names separately in the same
size font, then I typed all the descriptions separately in a smaller font and placed them underneath the artists
name. To add extra detail I used the rectangle tool to create small dividers between each headline.
8. Finally I created a puff promotion, I did this by using the ellipse tool whilst holding shift to make a perfect circle.
Then I created some text saying “win!” I made this large so it can clearly be read from afar, I then used the
warped text tool to make the text curve along the top of the circle. Next I used normal text to fill the inside of
the circle.
DPS Step by Step Guide
1. Firstly you must create the canvas, this time it must be two pages of A4 wide as it will cover two pages
in the magazine. A bleed also needs to be created to avoid anything important being cut off when the
magazine gets printed.
2. Secondly columns must be created in order for the text placed into this gives the magazine a
professional look I chose to make three columns as this is a common number in other magazines also.
3. At the start of the article I created a drop capital
4. Above the article I created a small paragraph to introduce and give a short background on the artist
5. Above this I created a title
6. On the other page I used an image of a wall to fill the background, I did this by going to file then place to
place the image in. I then did the same step again but instead chose my main image and placed this on
top of the background, I held shift while resizing both images to ensure they didn’t get warped.
7. Then I placed text at the top
8. Next I placed a box in the corner listing the editor, photographer and stylist for the image.
9. Finally I created a banner across the bottom which included the page number and social media of the
magazine.

Printing Quotes
I am going to print 20,000 copies of the magazine,
this is not a very large number but it is still a lot of
magazines to get an idea of whether or not it is
going to sell. My magazine has 28 pages, and a front
and back page, to print a magazine of this size it will
cost £1903.76 altogether
Distribution to retailer costs
• I'm going to distribute my magazines in large
supermarkets such as Sainsbury's and Tesco as
well as retailers like WH Smith. The reasoning
for this is because they are all well known
retailers who have stores across the country,
this means I can sell more magazine through
them and get to as many of my target
customers as possible.
Advertising Revenue
• In my magazine I'm going to have 10 full page
advertisements, this means that I’m going to
make £30,250 (10 x £3025)
• I'm also going to have 5 half page
advertisements, this means I'm going to make
£7560 (5 x £1512)
• So altogether from advertisements I'm going
to make £37 810 (£30,250 + £7560)
Advertising
• I am going to use Facebook as a method of
advertising as it is cheap and reaches a wide
audience, because the majority of people
have access to social media. Also the target
market for my magazines, is very similar to the
age demographic of Facebook users, therefore
I can reach the people that I want to reach.

Copyright is the legal right to film, publish, perform
and edit a certain material. This affects Q as it
means they cannot copy material from other
companies or people without gaining permission
from them. If they fail to get permission the use of
the material is illegal, this could lead to a fine and
would be asked to remove the material. It also
means they must get their own material
copyrighted otherwise it could be used by other
companies or competitors.
Regulatory Issues
Content which is copyrighted is known as intellectual
property. This property is legally protected from theft.
Intellectual property can be on print and digitally, companies
can get a digital watermark which signifies that the property is
protected, therefore it makes sure it is safe from theft, As for
someone to use copyrighted material they must pay for it, or
ask for permission, they cannot just take it and use it as they
please. The most effective way of protecting property is
through getting a patent, as this means products cannot be
made which copy the property or steal any of it. This is hard to
do though as it takes several years to obtain, and costs up to
$7000 in fees, which Is a large investment for a company to
pay.

The data protection act is an act introduced in
1998. The act means that businesses must
follow the ‘data protection principles’ when
holding information regarding customers. They
must ensure information is kept secure and safe,
used for a stated purpose which is fair and
lawful and not kept for any longer than is
absolutely necessary.

Watermark
• This is when an image or document is marked
with an image or text, the purpose of this is so
people cannot steal the picture and claim it as
their own, they must first buy the right to use
the image, this then removes the watermark.
• One company I found allows you to
watermark unlimited photos for £3.67 per
month
Spending Power
• The genre of my magazine is rap and hip-hop, because of
this my audience will be mid to low on the socio-economic
scale as higher classes do not listen to this genre so will not
buy my magazine.
• Low classes are less likely to buy magazines as it is not an
essential, so they would save their money to buy things
they need because they don’t have much.
• This would mean that my target audience would be mainly
mid class people, around C1 and C2 as these would like the
genre and be able to afford magazines
• Therefore my audience would have quite a high spending
power allowing me to price my magazine at £2.99

Interview • Interview Draft • Hello, How are you? • Hello, I’m very good thanks. • So, your new album drops next week, how are you feeling about it? • Pretty positive, I love it and I’m sure my fans will too. • Any favourites you have from the album? • Its hard to pick, in my opinion every song is amazing, plus they’re all my creations, choosing a favourite would be like choosing a favourite out of my kids! • A lot of work has been put into this upcoming album, 5 years in total put into it, is it hard putting so much effort and time into one piece of work? • Of course, especially when you don’t know if your fans are going to like it or not. But I really feel myself when I’m in the studio so to me it doesn’t really feel like a job, but a way of life. • You’re so passionate about music, Does this help when creating your own? • Definitely, I have fun in the studio making beats and coming up with lyrics, it really doesn’t feel like a job to me at all. • As well as your new album, you are also going on tour starting next week, Are you Excited? • Of course! I love being on tour, meeting my fans around the world • What’s your favourite place to go on tour? • London, it’s the place I grew up and the atmosphere you get there is like none other. But I do love going to places like New York and seeing that I have such big support in the US as well as England • Any necessities you need on tour? • I wouldn’t say I have any material necessities, but I definitely need my friends with me, we always have a good time touring the world, and dancing on stage together. • What everyone wants to know, who is going on tour with you? • Well I can’t release any information yet, but I can say there’s going to be some surprise appearances from big artists. • That’s all the questions, thanks for your time • Its been a pleasure

I have chosen this as red is a bold colour, therefore will stand out on the shelf so will be able to captivate a passing by audience. I am going to keep the fonts I use simple and very bold, this is so it can be easily read for afar, and so entice people in to read it closer, and buy the magazine.

  • 33. Hand Drawn Drafts And Graphic layout conclusion I have decided to go with the first graphic layout for the front cover. This is because it looks most like my magazine of inspiration, so I can make my magazine look very similar to my inspiration.
  • 34. Front Cover Step by Step Guide 1. Set up a canvas, A4 size as this is the size the magazine will need to be. Then you need to set up ruler lines to create a bleed, this means when the magazine is printed nothing important will get cut. 2. Start with the background, I chose to do a grey scale gradient. I did this by using the gradient tool, this is easy to use you just select it and drag a line where you want the gradient to be. 3. Then I made the barcode, this was easy to do, I just created a base for it then went to file, then place and chose a file I had which was a picture of a barcode. I placed this on the base and then used the text tool to write the price and issue date alongside the barcode. 4. Next I created the masthead, I did this by creating a large red rectangle using the rectangle tool. Then I used the text tool to write the name of my magazine onto it. To add more detail I went onto blending options to add a drop shadow to the text which I made black to stand out against the red background. 5. Then I added the main image, I did this by going to file, then place and chose the image wanted. I then resized it to fit the magazine and slightly overlap the masthead, I didn’t want the image to be warped so I held shift whenever I was resizing it. 6. Next I added the main headline. This step is very simple, I just used the text tool to create text and resized it to the way I wanted it. 7. For the next step, I added the other headlines, I did this by typing all the artists names separately in the same size font, then I typed all the descriptions separately in a smaller font and placed them underneath the artists name. To add extra detail I used the rectangle tool to create small dividers between each headline. 8. Finally I created a puff promotion, I did this by using the ellipse tool whilst holding shift to make a perfect circle. Then I created some text saying “win!” I made this large so it can clearly be read from afar, I then used the warped text tool to make the text curve along the top of the circle. Next I used normal text to fill the inside of the circle.
  • 35. DPS Step by Step Guide 1. Firstly you must create the canvas, this time it must be two pages of A4 wide as it will cover two pages in the magazine. A bleed also needs to be created to avoid anything important being cut off when the magazine gets printed. 2. Secondly columns must be created in order for the text placed into this gives the magazine a professional look I chose to make three columns as this is a common number in other magazines also. 3. At the start of the article I created a drop capital 4. Above the article I created a small paragraph to introduce and give a short background on the artist 5. Above this I created a title 6. On the other page I used an image of a wall to fill the background, I did this by going to file then place to place the image in. I then did the same step again but instead chose my main image and placed this on top of the background, I held shift while resizing both images to ensure they didn’t get warped. 7. Then I placed text at the top 8. Next I placed a box in the corner listing the editor, photographer and stylist for the image. 9. Finally I created a banner across the bottom which included the page number and social media of the magazine.

  • 42. Printing Quotes I am going to print 20,000 copies of the magazine, this is not a very large number but it is still a lot of magazines to get an idea of whether or not it is going to sell. My magazine has 28 pages, and a front and back page, to print a magazine of this size it will cost £1903.76 altogether
  • 43. Distribution to retailer costs • I'm going to distribute my magazines in large supermarkets such as Sainsbury's and Tesco as well as retailers like WH Smith. The reasoning for this is because they are all well known retailers who have stores across the country, this means I can sell more magazine through them and get to as many of my target customers as possible.

Advertising Revenue • In my magazine I'm going to have 10 full page advertisements, this means that I’m going to make £30,250 (10 x £3025) • I'm also going to have 5 half page advertisements, this means I'm going to make £7560 (5 x £1512) • So altogether from advertisements I'm going to make £37 810 (£30,250 + £7560)

Also the target market for my magazines, is very similar to the age demographic of Facebook users, therefore I can reach the people that I want to reach.

  • 48. Copyright © Copyright is the legal right to film, publish, perform and edit a certain material. This affects Q as it means they cannot copy material from other companies or people without gaining permission from them. If they fail to get permission the use of the material is illegal, this could lead to a fine and would be asked to remove the material. It also means they must get their own material copyrighted otherwise it could be used by other companies or competitors.
  • 49. Regulatory Issues Content which is copyrighted is known as intellectual property. This property is legally protected from theft. Intellectual property can be on print and digitally, companies can get a digital watermark which signifies that the property is protected, therefore it makes sure it is safe from theft, As for someone to use copyrighted material they must pay for it, or ask for permission, they cannot just take it and use it as they please. The most effective way of protecting property is through getting a patent, as this means products cannot be made which copy the property or steal any of it. This is hard to do though as it takes several years to obtain, and costs up to $7000 in fees, which Is a large investment for a company to pay.

The act means that businesses must follow the ‘data protection principles’ when holding information regarding customers. Watermark • This is when an image or document is marked with an image or text, the purpose of this is so people cannot steal the picture and claim it as their own, they must first buy the right to use the image, this then removes the watermark. • One company I found allows you to watermark unlimited photos for £3.67 per month

Spending Power • The genre of my magazine is rap and hip-hop, because of this my audience will be mid to low on the socio-economic scale as higher classes do not listen to this genre so will not buy my magazine. • Low classes are less likely to buy magazines as it is not an essential, so they would save their money to buy things they need because they don’t have much. • This would mean that my target audience would be mainly mid class people, around C1 and C2 as these would like the genre and be able to afford magazines • Therefore my audience would have quite a high spending power allowing me to price my magazine at £2.99
