Organic foods are healthy than conventional food. but due to lack of sufficient organic store and high prices consumers are not purchasing green products.
2. Green Food
• Green/Organic foods are foods produced by organic farming. While the
standards differ worldwide, organic farming in general features cultural,
biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources,
promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Artificial chemical
fertilisers are prohibited, also the use of drugs, pesticides and antibiotics,
and wormers.
• "Organic farmers develop a healthy, fertile soil by growing and rotating a
mixture of crops, adding organic matter such as compost or manure and
using clover to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere." Farmers develop soil rich
in nutrients to grow strong and healthy crops. They encourage wildlife to
help control pests and diseases by letting them range freely on the farms.
Mixed farming helps break cycles of pests and disease and builds up fertility
in the soil.
3. Vegetarian Mark
• Packaged food products sold in India are required to be
labelled with a mandatory mark in order to be
distinguished between vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
• The symbol is in effect following the Food safety and
standards (packaging and labelling) act of 2006, and got
a mandatory status after the framing of the respective
regulations (Food safety and standards (packaging and
labelling) regulation in 2011.
• According to the law, vegetarian food should be
identified by a green symbol and non-vegetarian food
with a brown symbol.
4. Companies producing green food
There is widespread public belief, promoted by the organic food
industry, that organic food is safer, more nutritious, and tastes better
than conventional food. So now companies are manufacturing green
food, some of them are as follows-
• Made Green Exports
• Jagan Enterprises
• Prakrati Organic
• Saico Healthcare Pvt. Ltd.
• Sun Agrifresh
• Royal Agro Green Foods Industries Pvt. Ltd.
etc.
5. Benifits of Green food
• Organic produce contains fewer pesticides.
• It is often fresher.
• Organic farming is better for the environment.
• Organically raised animals are NOT given antibiotics, growth
hormones, or fed animal byproducts.
• Keeps Our Families Healthy
• Purchasing organic, especially from the farmer's market, supports
your local community's economy, creating jobs and keeping farmers
thriving.
• No sick birds, dying sea or freshwater life, or infertile wildlife from
chemical exposure.
6. Consumer awareness
Organic food can be difficult to find. Your area may not have a
farmer's market and your local stores may only carry a limited
selection. Thankfully, these things are expanding drastically in
recent years, but we still have a ways to go and this means a little
extra work on your part, either finding good sources, ordering in bulk
or growing and/or raising our own.
As we all know the benifits of organic food but companies are
needed to aware consumer more about the green food and its
benifits.
The most common complaint though is that organic food is too
expensive. And this seems accurate when you're comparing it in
your grocery store to conventional food.
7. cont..
But it's important to understand that what IS organic isn't actually
more expensive; non-organic food has just been made artifically
cheap by government farm subsidies.
Most non-organic food derives from corn and soy, two heavily
subsidized commodities. Think about it: most processed foods are
about 80% corn-derived, and animal products are fed a corn- and
soy-based diet. (Yum.)
The other subsidies come in the form of oil: petroleum-based
fertilizers, pesticides, and so on. And another has to do with scale:
large-scale producers are often government-supported, too.
Non-organic farmers simply get more subsidies in various ways for
producing food than organic farmers, and so they can keep their
prices artificially low.
