Flores de Mayo-history and origin we need to understand

1. Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2nd Cor. 6:2b
September 2010
Dear Partner in Ministry,
21 year old Daniel, along with his mom and dad, were the very
last people to come to the horseshoe ministry booth on Thursday at
the Kansas State Fair. I took their names and handed the paper to the
volunteer who was personalizing the free John 3:16 horseshoes we
were giving away. I invited them to the back of our booth where we
were sharing the gospel with each person who visited us.
They sat down in 3 lawn chairs directly in front of me; the
father to my left, Daniel in the middle, and his mom to the right.
After explaining that we wanted people to know about the
greatest free gift ever given, I asked all three of them, “If you were to
die tonight, would you be 50%, 75% or 100% sure your would go to
heaven?” First, the mom said 100%, followed by the father and then
Daniel.

I thought to myself, this will be easy… Using the Evangecube.
I then asked my “dig deeper” question. “How do you know that to be true?” Mom said,
“Because I know Jesus.”
Next, the father began giving testimony of how he had heard about Christ early in life, had been
baptized, yet discovered that he really didn’t understand what he was doing as a child. After a chain of
events, he came to put his faith in Christ as a young adult. His testimony was very similar to mine.
Daniel remained quiet.
I asked, “Did that commitment make a difference in your life?” I then shared my testimony with
them of being baptized at age 15, but not understanding my decision to follow Jesus. I told them how I
surrendered my life to Christ at age 24 after seeing my friend Tim walk with the Lord.
The whole time, I could sense that the Holy Spirit was saying, focus on the man in the middle –
which of course was Daniel. So I asked Daniel, “When did you make that commitment?”
Daniel looked dumbfounded.
He responded, “I can’t really think of a specific time that I made that commitment.”
By this time, the rest of the volunteers had packed all the equipment up for the day. I didn’t let
the distractions stop me…I began to share the gospel with Daniel using the Evangecube. It was obvious
that the Lord had brought Daniel to our booth that day for one reason only – to save his soul.

2. As I finished the gospel presentation, I asked, “Would you like to surrender your life to Christ
right now?” “Yes, I would,” Daniel said. So we bowed our heads and called upon the God of heaven in a
prayer for Daniel’s salvation.
After praying, I looked Daniel in the eye and asked, “Did you mean that?” Without hesitation he
said, “Yes, I did!”
I shared some scripture verses with him about assurance of salvation and took his contact
information. As they were leaving, Daniel started to walk away, paused, and then returned to give me a
firm handshake to express his appreciation.
God reminded me of a valuable lesson that day…never assume that yes really means yes when it
comes to salvation. I could have easily dismissed them as all being saved and cut the conversation short
before leading Daniel to Christ. Thank God that the Holy Spirit was prompting me to continue asking
questions.
Many other seeds were planted during the Kansas State Fair outreach. Daniel was one of 12
people that God allowed me to lead to Christ. All together, the horseshoe ministry at the Kansas State
Fair touched over 4,800 lives with the gospel and saw about 113 people make first time decisions for
Jesus. Ultimately, only God knows the total impact that this ministry had on these lives.
Plans are already being made for next year to bring the horseshoe ministry back to the Kansas
State Fair. Thank you so much for your prayers and support for this outreach. You had a part in each
and every decision made for Christ.
Until the Net is Full,
Darrel Davis
P.S. Please pray for the thousands of people who received gospel tracts and heard the message during
the outreach. I believe that God is still working in their hearts…
