2. What is a SSRI?
SSRIs are Living Labs
that meet certain
conditions as spaces
for innovation:
Five pillars have to
be involved.

The involvement of the five pillars are
reflected in criteria from several categories
that must be met for being a SSRI.

Organization – Resources – Involvement of
users – Added Value
4. Methodology
The methodology for the creation and evaluation
of SSRI was defined in the Spanish R&D project
CISVI (Research Communities for Health and
Independent Life)
During CISVI execution the first four SSRIs
have been created.
5. SSRI’s Conferences
So far, three Spanish conferences have been
organized.
Zaragoza 2008 – Málaga 2009 – Madrid 2010
Several European and Spanish figures
related to open innovation
methodologies have participated.
6. SSRI Network
The network is coordinated by SSRILab WorkGroup
in the Spanish Technological Platform eVIA
Every year, at the Spanish Conferences on SSRIs
an official recognition is provided to those SSRIs
successfully evaluated.
So far, 24 SSRIs have been recognized along
the Spanish territory

8. European projects
The SSRI’s methodology has been followed so far
by:
PEOPLE (Pilot Smart Urban Ecosystems leveraging open
innovation for promoting and enabling e-services). CIP-ICT-
PSP-2009-4
MedLab (Mediterranean Living Lab for Territorial Innovation).
Co-funded by MED Programme.
C@R (Collaboration at Rural). 6th Framework Programme. Priority
2: Information Society Technologies.
Several projects using this methodology have been
submitted to FP7-ICT-2011-7 Call
