Why does OpenNebula fit the needs of Unity Technologies? We will share our journey from OpenNebula 3.2 as “”virtual manager”” to the IaaS platform it has evolved to now. Unity Technologies is a tech Company that works very agile and dynamic. The IT I&O team with in Unity supports the Unity globally and everything we have done is based on the KISS principle. Author Bio Karsten Nielsen is the Head of Infrastructure and Operations at Unity Technologies. He has a academic background in Business Administration and Information Systems. He has been working as a IT Systems Administrator for more than a decade with a main focus on Linux and OSS. Karsten has been working with OpenNebula since version 3.2.

The tools we were looking at needed to support KISS, different
hypervisors, etc

7. Why Opennebula?
Easy to install and setup
OpenNebula used known technology to manage the cloud, Linux, KVM, libvirt etc.
OpenNebula uses standard virtualization tools, so we did not have to learn new complicated
tech.
We can manage the complete cloud enviroment without OpenNebula, because it uses default
virtualization tools. So if for some reason OpenNebula is not running we will still be able to
manage, migrate, etc running VM's with standard tools like libvirt.
We can manage our virtual enviroment as well as Amazon EC2 and Softlayer Cloud the same
way, through OpenNebula
