• This ‘how to’ presentation describes how to use the advanced reporting
  feature in Opsview Enterprise
• If you don’t already have Opsview installed please request a trial to
  Opsview Enterprise.

Introduction
• Opsview Enterprise 4.1 users have access to a multitude of
  different reports that come “out of the box”, such as SLA
  reporting, availability reporting, and performance reporting.
• These can be run manually or scheduled to be run
  automatically on specific dates/times, either daily, weekly,
  monthly or yearly.
• Administrators can generate reports against certain parts of
  infrastructure, services, etc and automatically email them to
  customers or distribution lists on specific days and times.
• These reports can help provide insights into the health of IT
  systems and data for planning future capacity and also gives
  customers transparency for performance of managed
  services.

Configuration
• In this article we will setup an SLA report to run automatically
  at 8:00AM GMT on weekdays (Monday – Friday) and email it
  to the management team of “Company X”, so that they can
  clearly see if the IT infrastructure met SLAs for the previous
  day.
• Firstly we must log-in to Opsview and click on “Modules >
  Reports”, which is located on the right, under “Enterprise
  Reports”:

Configuration
• As before we have a range of reports we can choose from, but
  in this example we are going to use the “Daily Service Level
  Report”. As we are going to be scheduling the report to be run
  automatically at pre-determined intervals, we will need to
  right click on the report, and click “Schedule”, which will load
  up a page as below:




• Click on “Schedule job”, and we'll begin to build our
  scheduled SLA report.

Configuration
• The first section, “Job”, is basic information around the report,
  such as label and a brief description of what the report is. The
  2nd section, “Schedule”, is where we will configure when the
  report will auto-run:




• As above, we have selected “Calendar recurrence”, which has
  unlocked the options such as week days, months, etc. We are
  running the report every Monday – Friday at 8:00am.

Configuration
• The next section, “Parameters”, is where we enter our
  Keyword and other important items, such as Service Level
  Target (i.e. 99.9%, 99.999%, etc), and the logo that we want
  displayed on the report. Here you can customize the report to
  include your company logo, customer's logo or both as
  required.

• We also have the option to include scheduled outages, so that
  if we had 4 hours scheduled downtime on Monday, the
  Tuesday report won’t show that we missed our SLA, as we
  have included this as a scheduled outage (commonly included
  in Service level catalogues).

• The screenshot above shows that we are running our report
  against the keyword “emailservice”. We created this keyword
  to contain all items relating to our email service (SMTP
  servers, databases, Windows server 2008, etc) so that we can
  analyze it as a service rather than individual components.

Configuration
• Finally, the last section “Output” contains where we will
  store/output the report to and in what format. In our example
  below we are going to store the report in .pdf and .csv
  formats and email them to the distribution list for the CxO’s of
  Company X (we could create a new automatically generated
  report for each user, however this way is more elegant):

• Finally click “Save” and the scheduled report is created, so
  that at 8:00AM, Monday to Friday from today onwards, each
  user on the distribution list will receive a report in their inbox
  at the specified time.




• In the screenshot above we can see our new scheduled
  report, along with a label, and when it is to be run next.

Introduction • Opsview Enterprise 4.1 users have access to a multitude of different reports that come “out of the box”, such as SLA reporting, availability reporting, and performance reporting. • These can be run manually or scheduled to be run automatically on specific dates/times, either daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. • Administrators can generate reports against certain parts of infrastructure, services, etc and automatically email them to customers or distribution lists on specific days and times. • These reports can help provide insights into the health of IT systems and data for planning future capacity and also gives customers transparency for performance of managed services. Configuration • In this article we will setup an SLA report to run automatically at 8:00AM GMT on weekdays (Monday – Friday) and email it to the management team of “Company X”, so that they can clearly see if the IT infrastructure met SLAs for the previous day. • Firstly we must log-in to Opsview and click on “Modules > Reports”, which is located on the right, under “Enterprise Reports”: Wednesday, 05 September 5 © Opsview Ltd.   • 8. Configuration • As before we have a range of reports we can choose from, but in this example we are going to use the “Daily Service Level Report”. As we are going to be scheduling the report to be run automatically at pre-determined intervals, we will need to right click on the report, and click “Schedule”, which will load up a page as below: • Click on “Schedule job”, and we'll begin to build our scheduled SLA report.   • 9. Configuration • The first section, “Job”, is basic information around the report, such as label and a brief description of what the report is. The 2nd section, “Schedule”, is where we will configure when the report will auto-run: • As above, we have selected “Calendar recurrence”, which has unlocked the options such as week days, months, etc. We are running the report every Monday – Friday at 8:00am. Configuration • The next section, “Parameters”, is where we enter our Keyword and other important items, such as Service Level Target (i.e. 99.9%, 99.999%, etc), and the logo that we want displayed on the report. Here you can customize the report to include your company logo, customer's logo or both as required. • We also have the option to include scheduled outages, so that if we had 4 hours scheduled downtime on Monday, the Tuesday report won’t show that we missed our SLA, as we have included this as a scheduled outage (commonly included in Service level catalogues).   • 11. Configuration • The screenshot above shows that we are running our report against the keyword “emailservice”. We created this keyword to contain all items relating to our email service (SMTP servers, databases, Windows server 2008, etc) so that we can analyze it as a service rather than individual components.   • 12. Configuration • Finally, the last section “Output” contains where we will store/output the report to and in what format. In our example below we are going to store the report in .pdf and .csv formats and email them to the distribution list for the CxO’s of Company X (we could create a new automatically generated report for each user, however this way is more elegant): Wednesday, 05 September 12 © Opsview Ltd. Configuration • Finally click “Save” and the scheduled report is created, so that at 8:00AM, Monday to Friday from today onwards, each user on the distribution list will receive a report in their inbox at the specified time. • In the screenshot above we can see our new scheduled report, along with a label, and when it is to be run next.
