6. INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL
 The school was established in 1930. At the time the school was
know as Balvi Gymnasium. In 2009 it acquired the State
Gymnasium status.
 Balvi State Gymnasium is the biggest secondary school in Balvu
municipality according to the number of students. The school
teaches 279 pupils.
 Pupils learn from grades 7 to 12.
 Pupils of BSG are taught by 42 teachers.

8. SCHOOL UNIFORM
An uniform has been introduced in 2013 – dark blue
vest, blazer, jumper and a t-shirt with an embroidered
silver owl.
The blue colour symbolises affiliation,
silver owl symbolises growth
and wisdom.

15. MUSEUM
School has a modern and well-equipped museum, which holds
material such as:
 first schools in Balvi;
 headmasters, teachers and alumni of the gymnasium;
 the life stories of the people of Balvi and their repression
during the Soviet times.
The exhibit consists of documents,
objects, newspapers, journals
and books. It is possible
to access and
study the material about the
museums exhibits.

16. PATRONAGE SCHOLARSHIPS
At the end of the year, school holds an event to
which the best students and their parents are
invited to. Pupils are given scholarships by
patrons for participating in school olympiads,
their high grades and achievements.

17. LEISURE POSSIBILITIES DURING RECESS
During long recesses the pupils have an option to
spend their time playing board games in school's
assembly hall (checkers, chess) as well as table
tennis and badminton.

18. BOARDING SCHOOL
Renovated BSG boarding school was opened in 2014. It is
a home for several BSG pupils during studies. The
boarding school can accommodate 41 person.
